Opinions: FRI NIGHT OR SUN NIGHT

Opinions: FRI NIGHT OR SUN NIGHT

Hi, I have always wanted a night time affair in the summer. I am willing to give up Sat night, but now I am stuck between the other two. What would you choose if the money was the same for either night? Also what time would be best for a Sun night affair. I am a teacher but I know others still have to work on Mondays in the summer.

2 things to think about:
first of all, do most of your guests live near the wedding reception/church? If so, then I would say go with a Friday night b/c people don't have to work the next day and can stay out late. However, if people are travelling a good ways then keep traffic in mind...especially on LI in the summer....

as for Sunday nights...alot of places do twighlight ...like 5ish. That is good for people who have to work the next day as well....b/c it is still at night, but not too late.

I'll be honest, my sister got married on a Sunday night at 6:30 at Flowerfields and it was beautiful...and everyone came and stayed the whole time. Those people who care about you will take off or go in late if they have to...go with your gut feeling...at hers nobody left early...and everyone had fun.

i personally would go with the friday night affair... Most people work on Mondays and will leave early if you have a sunday night wedding... im not saying definatly but its possible... or if you could do a sunday night wedding when Monday is a holiday i would do that.. some places do not charge extra for that, but you have to look around...

i'd say sunday night. you could have it be finished by 9?
i know someone who got married on a friday and most people work so the church was pretty empty. people went to the recption but had to run home after work, change etc.....

I would say Friday. Everyone has off the next day and you have the whole weekend to talk about your wedding and relax!

Either way - your guest list will probably be much smaller - which can be a good thing for the budget.

Personally, I much prefer Friday nights.

I had the same situation and we finally went with a Friday night. It worked beautifully for us.

Like the other posters said the people that want to be there will make the effort either night.

One other thing to think about on Friday night is traffic. If you are planning on a summer wedding LI traffic is something you might want to consider.

be careful about twilight sundays. my hall it is the same price as sat night.

I think sunday is great if you are finished by 10...I left a reception at 10:30 sunday night, b/c I have to get up at 5 am in the morning...

If a lot of guests are going to be traveling, I think Sunday night is better. A twilight wedding is a good option, but I found that they usually cost the same amount as a Saturday night, thereby eliminating the cost-reducing benefits of a Sunday. We're doing a Sunday night wedding because most of our guests are coming from out of town. At first I was a little uneasy about it, but I think people are looking forward to making a weekend out of it. We've arranged for a winery tour for our guests for the Saturday before and for transportation to and from the wedding on Sunday, including transportating back into the city for the people that live there or would like to hop on a late train or a redeye flight. Most people are staying over Sunday night though. That being said, I think Friday is probably the best option if all guests pretty much live nearby.

This is what happened with us...
We got engeged in Feb. 2002, we did not want to wait too long to get married. When we went to match the church with halls for Sep. or Oct. & the Sat nights each was available didn't match!
I thought we just had to have a Saturday night! Of corse I had to get over it!
We chose Friday night. As it turns out, everyone we told it was Friday, thought Friday was the best night to have it. Some of the reasons we got were...

Friday is a traditional party night.
Friday makes it a three day weekend. (likes by all)

The most important people will be at your wedding no matter what day you pick. Either day will be the greatest day.
Good luck!

I had to choose an 'off' night due to price. I chose the Friday night, because we are getting married at our hall. So it doesnt even start until 6:30, this should give people time to show. If you are planning on a church you may not want a friday...because a lot of people may not make it. But whatever you decided will be perfect. The people you love will be sure to be there!

Re: Opinions: FRI NIGHT OR SUN NIGHT

The problem is that I am Jewish and so only a few of the guests may have a prob with a Fri night. Sat nights are supposed to start after sundown for Jewish people. Also, I need to have the ceremony at the reception site. I am so confused.....

I vote for Friday night - much easier on people's schedules in my opinion.

I also couldn't pay for the Saturday night -- I opted for Sunday afternoon though.

I prefer Friday night weddings because I feel like I can enjoy without having to worry about work the next day.

You have to think about your guest list and what you think they prefer. If they will be travelling distances you may opt for Sunday night because Friday traffic on LI in the summer may be really bad.

Either way I am sure you will have a beautiful event.

I think Friday is better. People don't have to worry about work the next day and they still have the whole weekend to relax and recooperate (if necessary).

We chose Friday night for all of the reasons all ready mentioned, and it went over fine. No one said it was inconvenient, and quite a few people commented on how nice it was to take all or half of Friday off in the summer!

I originally wanted a Sat. nite too, but because we wanted to do it within 8 months, I ended up with a Sunday night, which I'm not thrilled with. I hope people don't leave. The reception is 6 - 11 and now I'm worried

I'm having mine on a Friday night, however it's a holiday (July 4, 2003), so I'm getting the best of both worlds!

I would prefer a Friday night over a Sunday night, unless the Sunday night starts early. I went to a Sunday night wedding that didn't end until 1am. Unfortunately, I had to leave at 12.

FRI NIGHT

I too would have to prefer Friday Night due to the fact that I would have to work on Monday. On a Friday we would have the option to continue the party after the wedding if people wanted to go out!!

However if it was someone close & dear to me having a Sunday night wedding, I would take off that Monday so that I didn't have to worry about getting up early & to be able to enjoy myself more!

Re: FRI NIGHT

I have to have the ceremony there, so I was thinking that could start at either 4:30 or 5:00 and then 5 hours from there. Do you think that is too late?
