Opinions: FRI NIGHT OR SUN NIGHT

Original post by bride2003

Hi, I have always wanted a night time affair in the summer. I am willing to give up Sat night, but now I am stuck between the other two. What would you choose if the money was the same for either night? Also what time would be best for a Sun night affair. I am a teacher but I know others still have to work on Mondays in the summer.

4:30 or 5:00 sounds too early for a Friday wedding to me... Is that whats normally done?? I've never been to a Friday night wedding.

impartial to sunday

I didnt really want a sunday but my FH family is in the restaurant business so that was my only choice really, after i saw the prices for sat nights i was happy. Actually friday was in between as far as price. I wanted to do Columbus day weekend where people would have off the next day but wasnt a 3 day weekend where people have plans like memorial day but they treat it like a sat night anyway so it was too expensive, i agree that the people who really want to be there will stay.

I've never been to a sunday wedding before but i have been to a few fridays and I hate them, by the time I get home from work and rush to get dressed I always end up missing half the cocktail which is the best part, I just feel that sunday people dont have to rush and my reception is over by 11:30 anyway, who really goes to sleep much earlier than that anyway and even if they do it wont kill them for one night.

Either way you'll never please everyone so do what you want! (words to live by!)

I agree with Tara! I feel that people rush to get home from work on Fri. night weddings. People are alos too tired to get up and dance. I want everyone at my wedding on the dance floor having a good time. Not yawning from their long day at work. At first I really wanted a Sat. night wedding but the $$ is way out of budget. Was then considering Fri. night but themn thought about it. I'm having a Sun. afternoon wedding. People will definately be home early enough for work the next day.

Ok, whew! I was getting worried. I'm having a Sunday night wedding (6-12). But Taraspinka and Buttafli made me feel a lot better (Thanks girls :) )I've always been to Saturday night weddings and never to Sunday night ones. However, FH has always been to Sunday night weddings (he's Greek and he says it's a Greek thing??). And he said that he's never seen anyone leave early and that he always had fun. So we'll see what happens.

Re: impartial to sunday

We chose Sunday night, simply because it worked best for our guest list. While there were a few that it was more inconvenient for, it really worked out much better than if we had chosen a Friday, or even Saturday night. Hubby and I are in businesses that go practically 7 days a week, so really no day was the best day, but Sunday was the easiest all around.

While we pretty much made the choice of Sunday night because we figured it would be the easiest on the most people, some of the guests who stayed the latest were the ones we knew it would be the hardest on .. go figure! But it does go to show that those who genuinely want to be there, will be there, and stay there.

I don't think either one of us had ever been to a Friday night wedding, so Friday just didn't seem like a wedding type of choice, if that makes any sense. Plus, I could see how it would be tough on guests trying to scramble to either the church or reception from work .. either having to run home quickly to change, or change at work. And me, personally, I never feel quite the same if I've gone all day, then changed to go out for an affair as opposed to if I showed and prepared specifically for the affair.

Bride2003 - Have you been told by any reception halls that you can start at 4:30 or 5:00 on a Sunday night? I would be suprised them too, because it means they can't have an afternoon wedding. My wedding is at the Carlyle -- while they do just one wedding at a time, they do two in a day. Mine is 11:30-5:30 with the ceremony. The one after me starts at 6:30. Originally I wanted to start a bit later, but I would have had to pay a much higher amount to cover the fact they couldn't have two parties that day... Unless you are booking last minute, I can't see an hall committing to earlier then 6 on a Sunday.

Re: FRI NIGHT

I am having a Sunday night this July. I didn't have much of a choice because my rabbi wouldn't marry us on Friday night at all or Saturday night until after sundown which was too late. I was a little nervous about the Sunday night thing, but no one has really complained except for some older relatives. Most of our friends are staying at the hotel and making a vacation of it.

Sunday night worked out better for us financially also. It is not just the hall itself that is cheaper, but everything else is too- the band, photographer, etc. I am definitely happy with my choice of nights. I also looked into a Sunday twilight but it was just as expensive as Saturday night, and only made the party 2 hours earlier. I didn't think that those 2 hours were worth the money. Good luck!

We are having our wedding on a Sunday, from 6pm-midnight. Most weddings in my family are on Sat., but no one commented negatively about it.

Personally i prefer Sundays as I always hated running out after work and rushing to get to the reception and then if i want to go to the church i have to either leave early or take off that day. Happily my wedding is on Daylight Savings Time and even though it is a SUnday night wedding, the clocks go back an hour so that you get some extra sleep. I think that will be a help.

I vote for Friday night -
We couldn't afford Saturday night either so we booked a Friday night. I have been to several weddings on Sunday nights and I really never have had a great time - I always watch the clock worrying about getting up for work the next day. Just my opinion -

Friday Night

My vote is for Friday night, definitely. I rather leave work early friday early then have to go in on monday after a Sunday night wedding, or I would take off. Sunday is the end of the weekend, I think you would tend to get more people leave the wedding early if it was Sunday night over Friday Night. People like there Sundays (especially evening) to relax its the end of the weekend and Monday is too soon.

Good Luck
