Opinions...mother/daughter dance
Hi ladies,My dad passed away 3 years ago so planning my wedding has been bittersweet. My mom is walking me down the aisle and I wanted to dance with her at the reception. I was thinking of pre-recording a poem about my father that the DJ could play and then at the end of the poem I would invite my mom up to dance. In the middle of the dance, I would want the DJ to invite my sisters and grandmother and aunt to the dance floor to join us, then invite any mothers and daughters to join. What do you think? I want to honor my dad at my wedding- do you think this is too much? And do you have any song suggestions? I'm leaning towards Mama's Song by Carrie Underwood.

Re: Opinions...mother/daughter dance
I don't think this is 'too much' at all.. your dad was a very important part of your life, and you understandably want to feel like he's with you on your wedding day.In addition to the poem.. do you have videos of your dad that you could play on a screen while the poem is read? Or if your parents had a wedding video, maybe you could play a scene of their first dance while you dance with your mom? I think it would be very sweet.
My grandfather passed away two years ago, and I would give anything to have him at our wedding. I am still trying to figure out ways to honor him, but one of the ways is that we're going to play a lot of his favorite songs. He really enjoyed playing Italian-American music (Sinatra, Bennett, Louis Prima) as well as music from the big-band era.
Did your dad have a certain style of music that he liked or perhaps a favorite artist/band?

Re: Opinions...mother/daughter dance
my friend did something similar to this at her wedding a few years ago.Her father passed away when she was a kid and she did a mother daughter dance to honor him at her wedding.
It was very sweet and touching, the only thing she said she regretted was not thinking about it before hand. She said she should have practiced dancing with her mom lol becasue she got super emotional when she had to do it infront of everyone there.

Re: Opinions...mother/daughter dance
My dad passed when I was 18 so I cry at the thought of not having that 'father/daughter' moment at my wedding. I think its very sweet to do a mother/daughter dance in honor of your father. I wish I could but my parents divorced when I was very little so I don't think my mom would go for it. I plan on doing another slow dance with FH after his mother/son dance and dancing to one of my dad's favorite bands.Love your idea and if you do have tvs I def like the idea of adding a video even if its just a photo montage.

Re: Opinions...mother/daughter dance
Thanks....I am also thinking of doing the song 'I Turn to You' for the dance. I am super emotional about my dad not being there so I know I wil be crying! My DJ package includes a parent montage during the dance so I am thinking of doing a montage of both my parents while I dance with my mom. My dad's favorite song was Sweet Home Alabama so I want to play that song and keep a picture of him on the plasma screens as the song is played.

omg i love this. its bringing tears to my eyes already. you should definitely do this.on a side note, my mom is a single mother - i was thinking of not only having her walk me down the aisle, but that we'd do a mother/daughter dance as well. i cant find a nice enough song for us though :(

I love this idea, and I got goose bumps while reading it. I think the poem is a super good idea....... I know its not a very 'loving' song but the song 'Holes in the Floor of Heaven' is a great song for an occasion like this.Welcome New Vendors
