Opinions Needed...

Opinions Needed...

and what you will be doing for invites....

I am thinking about wording for the invites....Now my parents are hosting and paying for the entire RH - I don't feel it is nessary to have FH parents names on the invite - because they haven't done anything to pitch in for this wedding...

Actually i missed something they are giving us aggravation... (and that just a cost of me and FH)

But really is it nessary to have the Groom's parents on the invite if they are not doing anything for it?

Thoughts and opinions welcomed!!!!

TIA

ETA: Like I said, thank you for all your opinions, it is greatly appreicated. We will figure this out...

Re: Opinions Needed...

I have a similar situation....

I opted to put their names on the invitation mostly because my mother made me...LOL....no but seriously, god forbid they decide to kick in money at the last mintue then I would have felt horrible!!

in the words of my mother...'take the high road'

Not necesarry at all.

If your parents pay for it all, which is quite traditional, and it is your parents that are giving you away...its their party they are hosting(or paying, whatever)...so don't feel obliged to put them on there Let your parents have the glory

i would do this:

Mr and Mrs XX invite you to attend the wedding of their daughter XXXX to FH son of mr and mrs XXX. their names are still on it, but not as the host.

U know I am in the same boat as u. You know my situation and I am sure you know what I am going to say, NO REASON TO PUT THEIR NAMES ON!!!
Good luck!

(I know you will make the right decision)

This is the best idea I think. They may end up giving you a few thousand as a gift instead of pitching in, and you would rather be safe than sorry

although FH's parents aren't contributing to the wedding financially, they're a big part of both of our lives and I definitely wanted them included on our invitations. pics are in my album!

Mine will say:

Today I will marry my best friend,
the one I laugh with, live for, love

Mr. & Mrs. Vincent *********
request the honour of your presence
at the wedding celebration of their daughter

Devon Diane
to
Matthew Michael

son of Mr. & Mrs. Michael ********
Saturday, the ninth of June
Two thousand and seven
at three o’clock
St. Joseph’s R.C. Church
Kings Park, New York

IMHO I never even thought twice about not mentioning them on it b/c this wedding is about BOTH of you..... I think it's nice to honor your FH's family as well but that's just me.

If you do both the Brides parents do come first.

Re: Opinions Needed...

I found this article on TheKnot too:

Here's the funny thing about people's names on the invitations -- everyone thinks it signifies who's paying for the wedding, and a lot of the time, the parents listed are paying -- but the larger meaning is that they are hosting the reception. 'Hosting' is a word with flexible meaning. Parents can be official hosts -- they planned the party, they invited the guests, they paid -- or honorary hosts. Maybe the couple paid for their own wedding, but still want to honor the bride's parents and the groom's parents on the invitation. Technically, all four parents can be listed on an invitation without putting a penny toward the wedding. (This usually isn't the case, of course.)

It's more diplomatic to list all four parents, even if the bride's parents are putting more money into the wedding. If nothing else, it's a wonderful way to reach out to your new in-laws. And these days the bride's parents aren't really giving her away anymore -- why should the groom's parents get shafted on the invites?

Whatever your take on that, since his parents are contributing and you have raised this subject, you should include their names. You can either do it the way you suggested -- with both sets of parents listed on top -- or insert their names after the groom's name, with the line 'son of' in between.

This is how I did mine. My dad is paying for the majority of the wedding...and I was only going to put his name on there. But FH got upset and wanted his parents names on there too .... his mom would not be happy if it wasn't...so I pu tit on there towards the end saying that my dad was the one inviting everyone to attend. I think i'ts the bigger thing to do to put there names on there...but not honored as much as your parents. Plus you don't want to start off on a bad foot with your new in laws!!!

If they are not paying for anything I would not put there names on the invitation . . . and I wouldn't feel bad about it either

Re: Opinions Needed...

If they arent paying they dont need to be on the invite, I dont think there would be anything wrong with it if you didnt put them on it

Re: Opinions Needed...

i didnt put his parents name on it b/c they werent hosting the party - my parents are paying almost 100%. My mom got upset that i didnt put their names on it, i told her they werent paying and she said it doesnt matter, its not nice to exclude them - they're his parents and my not have the money to contribute...i felt bad for about 1 min then i moved on...lol...btw - no one from his side said anything about the invitaiton wording....

go with your gut or take the high road - in the end you'll never be able to make everyone happy
