Opinions Needed - Invitation Wording - Deceased Parent

Do you or would you find it morbid if you were to receive a wedding invite that included a deceased parent's name?

No, but it has to be worded properly. IE: the deceased person cannot 'invite' people to the wedding, but other than that it is fine

Agreed...
Maybe you can put something like :

(Just an example)

Jane Smith
Daughter of Mrs. Susan Smith and the late Mr. John Smith

to be married to

Ken White
Son of Mr. & Mrs. Mark White

That sounds good. You also have to take into consideration how it is going to make you or DH and the surviving spouse feel. It may be upsetting.

I am a traditionalist and did not include my deceased mother on my invite because she could not physically be there to 'host' the event.
I just mentioned my dad's name.

I honored my mother in other ways. We lit a memorial candle and Dr. Burns stated to our guests the purpose of this candle and offered up a small prayer. I also had her pic on my bo-k and I wore her wedding band.

Other girls will tell you it is ok to mention son of or daughter of the late, IMHO, I don't feel it to be appropriate.

FH mother is not alive but he did not want to put 'the late' on the invite. He also really wanted her name on it, so we put Son of Mr. & Mrs. Lawrence & Arlene ____.

My father passed away a couple of years ago and knew FH. I was going to put his name on the invitation b/c I thought that is what you have to do and thought my mom wanted it (I actually didn't). My mom actually (who is not remarried or dating) said no b/c its weird. I am not putting my dads name on it b/c my mom and I are not fans of it. Either way its fine I would do what you want. If you want your parents name then put it on who cares what others think!

My father passed away last yr but i really wanted his name on the invite so I compromised with my mom and put Mrs. John ******** and Mr. and Mrs. Dennis ******* request the honor of your presence at the marriage of their children

I think its fine as long as it is worded 'in memory of' or something along those lines...

i wouldn't find it morbid, but rather in poor taste and bad etiquette.

a person that is deceased cannot host a wedding, nor will they be physically present, so it just doesn't make sense to put them on there.

D lost his mom and we both agreed not to put the 'late' ______ ________. it was too sad for him where a wedding invitation should be happy. you're celebrating life, nto death. we honored her at our Mass and in our program....which was much more appropriate, IMO.

I have a deceased parent also, and my father was remarried, but my birth-mother's family hates my step-mother, so to avoid issues and still be inclusive we just said:

Together with their parents
Miss _________ and
Mr.____________
request the honor of your presence...

It is not morbid at all!!!!!
I think its lovely.
both FH and I lost a parent, and I could not imagine my father's name not on the invite.
We did
The honor of your presence is requested at
the wedding of
Shari __________
daughter of Susan and Robert
to Matthew _____________-
son of M and E

My family loves the wording. Both my mom and Fh's dad are helping us equally, but we didn't feel the need to write who requested their presence.
Hope that helped.

I agree as long as it's worded appropriately you can do that.
