Hi Ladies, I consider myself to be a VERY organized and detailed bride but a few people have suggested I look into hiring one of these. I met with someone last night . This is the one thing my FI is totally not buying. He said $500 is ridiculous (He believes I could run this shabbang very smoothly, in fact he thinks I should become a coordinator). What do you guys think???????

Re: Opinions on 'day-of coordinator'???
Sure it's silly, but then why keep adding more silliness to it! Please dont tell me you also bought wedding insurance too? Haha. Just kidding.
I guess I'm in the school of 'do -it-yourselfers' plus I hired some great vendors as I'm sure all of you did (dont wanna offend anyone again) who did almost everthing for us - most of the things you mentioned that your coodinator did. I also have friends and family that truly wanted to help (ie: my dad who made sure the reception room was set up exactly to our specs) I dont think I have 'standard' tastes either....so I was very discriminating in certain areas...As I said before, the way the question was phrased, it's all a matter of opinion. You're on one side of the fence, I'm on the other on this topic.

FYI: I was not at all offended by your comment. You are 100% entitled to think a coordinator is frivilous...thats what this board is all about sharing of information and ideas.

Know what I think?
I think if a coordinator was 'handed' to any one of us for free we would be so very gracious.
Ppl are going to only have negative opinions to justify the fact that they either cant afford to spend money on this or just dont want to spend money on this. It is silly to me to read that ppl wouldn't want that 'extra help' on there special day IF they could fit in into there budget.
I couldnt fit it into my budget but WISH I could of!

LOL HappyBride, I would probably take the freebie, I just might keep butting heads with her ever so often

Re: Opinions on 'day-of coordinator'???
I would have had a coordinator the entire time if I could afford it. I am considering having one the day of but I haven't decided. I know the vendors and hall are able to handle everything but I want to be able to know that one person is looking after everything and has the big picture in mind. I don't trust my family and friends to do it-I'm the most anal person I know. I also want to be able to say so and so is in charge, ask her so everyone doesn't look at the girl in the white dress when there is a question. Of course its frivolous, the whole process is. We could all get married in City Hall in a t-shirt and shorts and call it a day. Everyone has their priorities.

Re: Opinions on 'day-of coordinator'???
One of my aunts has volunteered to be my wedding coordinator, she has done other weddings for family members.
Though I am doing alot of things on my own, I may take advantage of her services the day of.
To be honest with you if I could afford it I would hire one. As Sonicstef said there are going to be some things that you just do not want to deal with on 'theday'.
So my advice to you Curly see if one of your relatives can hep you out.

Re: Opinions on 'day-of coordinator'???
Just to clarify, I never said I couldn't fit it into my budget....but rather I think a day of coordinator is a bit redundant and therefore not really worth spending the money on. You're paying all of your vendors to do their jobs - ie - florists do the setups, limo/photog coordinate day, and youre tipping the maitre D alot & sometimes bridal attendant to run the affair. You're also asking people to be in your bridal party as an honor - and youre giving them these expensive gifts.....originally the whole point of a bridal party was to stand up for you and help out where needed.
So now you want to add another person on top of all that!?!?! 500 bucks to line you up and tell you youre running late....and to go fetch you a sewing kit???? I can just picture it - J Lo in the wedding planner. Hmm...I must be in the wrong industry. I suppose if you didnt have a bridal attendant or party I guess...... I'm sorry, I wouldn't take a coordinator even if THEY PAID ME! JMO again.....
