Opinions Please
First, I just want to thank all LIWedding Brides for their help and comments on this site. I am constantly reading all of your comments on various vendors and it has helped me soooo much in planning my November wedding. So far, I have booked Twelfth Night for photography and Mittermax for videography thanks to the comments from the girls on the boards. So thank you all!
So far I have met with four florists. I loved Laurie from LA Blossom but she is pretty high in her prices compared to the other vendors. I met with John from Flower Michele and Mike from Flowers by Burton this past weekend. John was really nice and very helpful and I loved his vision. We want for our centerpiece a martini glass filled with roses of purple, light pink, lavender, and white. He suggested we also put hydrenia matching the color of the martini that the table is named for (we are going for a martini theme here since we asked the RH to extend the martini bar throughout the reception in lieu of a wedding cake since we are bringing in our own), so therefore, for the cosmopolitan table, he'd use pink hydrenia inside the glass but still put the purple, pink, and white roses on top. I think this could be very cute. We have a lot of guests so we needed roughly 20 centerpieces, my bouquet, 1 moh bouquet, 5 bm bouquets, 7 boutinierres for the FH, best man and groomsmen, and then coursages for moms and grandmoms, and flowers for readers at the church, and boutinierres for groom's dad, my uncle, and my grandfather. He quoted us a price that was around our price range (a little higher but not that much...only $200 more). The next day we met with burton's and unlike Flower Michele, the experience felt a little cold. I like that they don't charge by the flower and instead charge by how many you need, however, i felt like i was just another number to them and it felt very mechanic (i don't know how to explain it...sorry). I want a certain bouquet, which i found on Flower Michele's website and I absolutely LOVE it. I know that Flower Michele can do it obviously because they have done it before. For the same amount of bouquets, boutinierres, coursages and centerpieces, we received a quote $100 less than Flower Michele. For our centerpieces, Burton's suggested using a variety of flowers that would hang over the centerpiece but nothing inside the glass. The only thing that he mentioned we could do, which FM liked the idea as did I, was to fill the glass with colored water to match the different martini drink for each table, such as green water for the green apple martini table. I did like this idea too as well as the hydranea inside the glass idea. So now comes the dilemna. I have no issue with either place and they both gave me a reasonable quote for everything. I do like that Flower Michele has done the bouquet that I like and I felt that John was so much more personable and easy to work with and has some great ideas. On the other hand, what I like about Burton's is that if i decide to move away from just roses and add some more flowers to the centerpieces, i won't get charged more for using different flowers. So if anyone has any opinions, it would be greatly appreciated. I know that everyone raves about these two florists and i can understand why but how do you choose between them. So any feedback would be most helpful.
Also, we are having some difficulty in finding a DJ for a reasonable price. We have met with a few and some have been outrageous with their pricing and others have just not been what we are looking for. Both FH and I want a club type atmosphere but nothing too over the top and crazy. We also want to do the photo montage on 2 plasa screens. We don't mind putting the montage together ourselves if we have to in order to save some cash. We are going to see FM Entertainment tonight and I'm really looking forward to it since they seem reasonable in their prices. If anyone could recommend any other DJs that do a great job for a reasonable enough price, that would also be greatly appreciated.
Thanks ladies and I'm so glad to be a part of the LIWeddings board since everyone is so helpful! Thanks!
