Opinions please....

OK, so I rarely do a Poll thing, but I am really in a bind here.


FH & I are exchanging gifts & we qare getting each other little things (I got him a PS2 & an RC truck that he wanted) but I had this amazing idea to hire the band that we went to see on our first official date for the viennese hour. The band will play for the entire last hour & they cost $1000.

Here's the poll;
- Is this a good gift?
- should I end the party with live music after having a DJ all night?

Swing Music..... FH & I used to go swing dancing every weekend until the swing club on LI closed down

I think it would be great, you can end the wedding with upbeat music and you guys could show everyone your moves on the dance floor

The swing club on LI closed down?? Was that SwingSet? Drat! I kept meaning to go there the 'next' time I was up visiting my folks. Bummer!

Out of curiosity, what's the band? I'm a big swing dancer too and I think this is SUCH a cute idea...

Yes, the swing set closed down....I was very sad.

The band is Dem Brooklyn Bums.


(On a side note, I called Big Bad Voodoo Daddy just to see.... they wanted $50,000 )

Hey Alison, they turned the Supper Club in Manhattan into a Deep House club... the swing clubs are going fast!

(I think Swing 46 is still open though )

It's actually funny that you ask this question because FH really wants one of his favorite bands to play the last hour of our reception and I haven't told them that I spoke to their manager and they said they'd do it. I was going to surprise him, so I say GO FOR IT!

Hey! I've seen Dem Brooklyn Bums here in DC! They're really good!

Yeah I knew about Supper Club too...that was one of the places I DID used to go when I was in NYC. I think I was actually there right before it closed.

We still have a ton of places for swing dancing here in Washington...you should come visit sometime!

AlisonMT... I may have to visit in DC.... I am going through withdrawls here in NY! (FH & I actually wanted to open up our own swing club, but with this new smoking law we are going to wait & see what happens )

You should definitely come visit!! We've got tons of great places to dance here. Though I am sad to say I've been a little out of the loop myself, what with work full-time, school part-time, and the wedding...I just haven't gotten out dancing in WAY too long. Plus DF doesn't swing dance which makes it all the more difficult to get out. BUT if you come down, we will all go out together!! Let me know!

Edited to say: I think opening a club is an AWESOME idea, if you can do it (I almost said 'if you can swing it'...UGH, Bad Pun!! ). Why would the smoking ban have an effect? Most of the dancers I know HATE smoke and would love a smoke-free environment in which to dance. In fact, most of the more popular dance places down here are smoke-free...
