Opinions please!

Opinions please!

Hi all!

My older sister got engaged a few months before me, she is getting married May 2013. I am struggling with finding a date that is not too close to her wedding but keeps FH happy, he does not want to wait.

Anyone have similar situations or opinions?

I would probably avoid March through July since everyone in your family will be so busy with all the wedding stuff! You are probably both involved in each others wedding as well? Figure on having her shower in March then all the last minute stuff until the wedding and maybe give a month or two in between? I bet its tons of fun that you two can plan together though!! Good luck!

Are your parents paying for both weddings? That would be the biggest concern, if not I would wait at least 3 - 6 months to give any oot guests a break and then go for it. but that's just my opinion.

Re: Opinions please!

my best friend/moh just got engaged this past weekend and already has picked her date of oct 12, 2013 and I'm 3 months later. I've been engaged longer and have planning for months now. it is sort of like she got engaged and jumped in front of me but I'm okay with it lol.

like she asked if it was ok to do that before she did it. so you should sit down with your sister once you think of a date and ask if that's okay with her. definitely at least have 3-6 months in between because you don't want to be like right after her.

I still get worried my moh will be too busy with her own wedding or problems might come up as we get closer to dates but she assures me it'll be fine. we've always had her bdays on top of each other so it makes sense to us that we'd get married close to each other lol.

plus as my fh likes to put it hey we can see any mistakes at her wedding and make sure not to do them!

I had a similar experience but with a bat mitzvah. it was not the most fun finding a date that worked but we pushed our wedding back to space it out at 3 months after for the out of town guests and to not steal her moment or vice versa. I'm not thrilled with it, but in the end it'll be fine and we just hope our August date won't be too hot!

I think it depends but I agree u need to space it out a few months...I would talk to ur sister and parents to get a feel for their opinions

i would talk to them, but may is still quite a ways away..if you don't want to wait long i think you could totally pull something off and get married in dec/jan/feb..our entire engagement is only 2 months and we're doing it

as far as the timing, people will be happy for you no matter what, and people will be annoyed at your decisions no matter what-YOU CANNOT MAKE EVERYONE HAPPY..that was one of the first things i had to realize

we got engaged june 16, and had already responded yes to fh's friends wedding on aug 30. well, we decided we def. wanted to get married in the summer, and didn't want to wait until next summer, so we're getting married aug 24..6 days before them..but it's really just how timing worked out

I think leaving 2-3 months between weddings will be plenty of time. FH and I were engaged in August 2011 and his brother got engaged in March 2012. Their wedding is planned for December 27th in Georgia. I have a huge problem with this - but mostly because it is in Georgia and it's costing us a fortune to travel during the holidays - 8 weeks before our wedding. If you are guys are both having local weddings, it should be fine.

Talk to her and see what she thinks about you guys getting married before/after her and see if she has a preference. It sounds like you are being very considerate!

My younger sister got engaged a couple months before I did. (We are close in age, only a year a apart). She booked her wedding first so I promised her I would book mine at least 3 months away from hers. She booked November 2013 so I booked July 2013. The 3 month rule seemed to please family members too who will be attending both weddings.... At first she was upset I jumped ahead of her, but I am a year older so that's what made her forgive lol.. it's a tough situation to be in! good luck!

Re: Opinions please!

Thank you all so much! I feel so much better about setting a date next fall.

My parents said they are happy with whatever we decide and my sister doesn't care as long as they can go on their honeymoon first :)
