opinions, please!

So, a friend of mine went to a wedding last weekend and she told me that instead of carrying flowers, the girls carried the sand that was being used in the sand ceremony.

I absolutely LOVEEEEE this idea because i do NOT want my girls to carry flowers.

The only thing that my friend didn't like about it was that on the way back, they were literally carrying small empty vases and it looked a little silly.

I have two questions for you wedding gurus...

1. Would it be silly for the girls to carry sand but NOT have the sand in the ceremony, therefore the girls walk BOTH WAYS with vases of sand..?

and

2. If the sand the girls were carrying was used in the ceremony, what could I replace the sand with (really quickly, like a quickchange in magic) so they weren't walking back with empty vases? I was thinking maybe ONE flower... this might work because there's only four girls...

I dunno... I NEED YOUR HELP!!!

Thanks beautiful girls!

I agree with the above, either pick up a flower to carry back, or leave the vases up front so they are walking out empty handed (I think empty handed would look better than empty vase'd lol). Very cute idea though!

personally I think it would be strange to have them carry sand and it not be a part of the ceremony. I also agree that its better to have them leave the vases then walk back with them empty. I feel like if you are going to put a flower in the vase after it becomes empty then why not just have them carry flowers to start. KWIM? I know you said you didn't want them carrying flowers so then having them carry them back doesn't really make sense.

How about have enough sand in the vases so some sand will be used in the sand ceremony but there will be sand still left in each vase so they don't walk out empty handed.
