Opinions Please!! Too much for a gift??? * with pics
Ok here is the story. FH and I are paying for our wedding on our own. My mom paid for my dress and his mom is paying for the favors. Everything else is on us. BUT fh's mom owns a bunch of apts and is currently letting us live rent free in one of them. If not for that we would NOT be having this wedding.. no way no how. So to thank her I wanted to get her a nice gift.. she is old italian and LOVE lenox and lladro. Well I discovered a lladro piece recently that is huge and so beautiful it brought me to tears! Its so perfect and I thought it would be a nice way for her to remember our wedding by... problem is the price tag! $2500

I think you can probably shop around and get a better price.. But, considering how much money she is saving you- and how much you think she will love that gift.. I think if you feel it is appropriate- then go for it.

my first reaction was OMG, no, don't spend that much!! but you seem to like it so much, and you only get married once, and he!!, you only live once. so i say go for it! i'm sure she would LOVE it.

I think you could probably find a present just as nice & meaningful for less. That is a lot of $$$$ . (JMO)

IF she collects those pieces she will appreciate the value of it, the sentiment and the thoughtfulness that you knew how much she would love it..
FIL's collect that stuff- they go crazy for it. I can understand why you think it is such a great gift.

thanks I really needed to hear that!! Its hard esp. when someone has alot of $$ and can really buy themselves anything they please.. but she loves collecting this stuff but rarely buys it for herslef. and in the 3 plus years I have been dating her son I have never given her a piece on my own..

wow! I guess it really depends on your MIL. Personally, I don't think its worth spending over 2K on something like that. These things are so fragile, can break, and that would REALLY heartbreaking.
On the other hand, to people that have lots of $$$ its nice to give something that they would never buy for themselves - this is definately it.!.
In my opinion though, I wouldn't spend that much on this. And I LOVE these kind of things. -- but than again, I'm poor!!!

Personally, I LOVE Lladro and think the piece is BEAUTIFUL! It's really touching and definately will remind her of your beautiful wedding day everytime she sees it. I say if you can afford to do it, go for it.

personally, i'd let it sit for a little bit longer...but if you think that it would be perfect, then get it. she'd be touched, that is for sure. but for that price, you could send her to italy, too!

omg!! considering she is letting you live rent free, i would give her $2500 cash or check to thank her for her generosity before spending it on a gift.

i know that you could definetly get a cheaper price for that. i am going to give you the name of a little italian bakery and gift shop in merrick. it is right on merrick road about a 1/2 mile east of the wantugh pkwy. the name of it is capri bakery and gifts. the lady in there is a sweetheart. we have been going to her for years. we get all party favors and little gifts there. i can almost garantee that she has it there and probably be cheaper. if she doesnt i would be very surprised. if you need anymore info please let me know.

You should shop around. Did you talk to FH about it ?? I don't think it's 'too much' considering all of the money she is saving you. - If you HAVE it and you want to do it for her, I think it's a really nice gift !!

I have a wedding lladro from my parents that is gorgeous and is less than $400 (I forget the exact price). If you want lladro you can do better price wise.
