Opinions wanted......PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!! (long)

Hi everyone! I`m new to this site and just engaed only a week ago, but I`m having a big problem already. I went to one reception hall last week and on a whim, I booked the place (it also happens to be the first place I looked at). I`m not totally in love with the place but it`s nice. Anyway, the banquet manager was not flexible at all and compared his establishment to a Saturn dealership (basically saying no haggling to lower the prices). Now, here`s the problem. After putting a deposit down, I did some investigative work and e-mailed the banquet manager saying I live out of state and I`m planning a wedding and basically just looking to see if the prices match up. Well, after providing him with a variety of days and times (including the day I already booked)he emailed me back stating the guarantee on a Sunday was 125, when he told me face to face the gurantee would be 150. And when I asked him face to face about if I go over the guarantee of 150 if he could do anything such as lower the price per person, he said No, once you meet your guarantee it is the price stated per head. Oh yes, the prices he quoted both in person and via email were identical. And then when I asked him via email if he could work with me if I went over the 125 guarantee, he said yes. Now, what do I do? Do I confront him? And if so, How?? What do I say? In person? Can I cancel the hall ( in the contract, there are NO clauses regarding cancelling) PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!! Thanks!! :o(

Deena, I would like to start off by saying congrats on your engagement, and welcome to the board. You will love it here, I have found priceless advice and recommendations through this site. Next, your problem at hand...let's start off by asking the who and where. Where is this place, and who did you deal with? I'm sure there is someone here who has either looked at, booked at, or dealt with this establishment. What does your contract say? The bottom line should be right there in black and white. Personally, I would tell the person the truth, you have heard conflicting information from other clients. See what they say.Keep us posted and Good luck!

First off, if you arent in love with the place, dont book there..it seems like you already have a bad taste in your mouth because of it. There MUST be a cancellation clause somewhere. Ask them about it...and if necessary lie and say you know someone who was quoted a price differently if you arent comfortable with confronting them directly. You will be spending alot of money ther, dont feel like they are doing you a favor by having your wedding there. It is your day and they should be going out of their way for you, not the reverse. Do not be intimidated by these places, and do not let them trap you into ANYTHING you are uncomfortable with. You are the boss. get exactly what you want or look elsewhere.....good luck

Is it possible that there are two rooms at this reception site? If so, the one you booked may be larger and that would explain the higher guarantee. If not, he was untruthful and you should definitely confront him in a diplomatic manner. Save the e-mail with the quote and if you're not happy with the hall I'm SURE they will give you your money back. They can't argue with solid proof. If they refuse, tell them you're going to take them to small claims court, report them to the better business bureau, and advise all other brides of their shady dealings. If he won't budge, ask to speak with the owner. I'm reading a book about assertiveness and if you assure them you are not going away you will ultimately get what you want and deserve. Don't ruin your wedding over a $500 deposit. You will get your money back one way or another, so find a place you really love! Keep in mind that a lot of places book up to 2 years ahead so be sure of what's out there before you do anything. Good luck!!!
