Okay, so I love my engagement ring. Who doesn't?? However, we bought our wedding bands this past weekend and I found a setting that I LOVED! It matches my dream wedding band perfectly.
Background: FH picked out my ring when he proposed and the whole thing was a surprise so I didn't get to pick it or anything.
So, when we were there he said, do you want to change settings? Obviously, I said yes! I get my ring back on Friday and all is well, right??
Well, now FH seems all depressed that I didn't like his original ring. He keeps making small comments like how I should have been able to pick it out from the beginning or how he thought we would upgrade but not 6 months after getting engaged, etc...
I don't really feel bad because he asked if I wanted the new ring. Yes, I did. I am getting it. We should all be happy.
Where did the train derail???
NOTE: Pic with the champagne glass is of the original ring. The new ring is similar but an eternity band with 4 prongs and 2 small round diamonds on the side.
same issue here.. i wound up getting a new ring set, and offered to sell the original ring to give us money toward the new ring.. and that really hurt him.. so he has insisted that i keep both rings.. which makes no sense because we need the money.. but i could tell by his face that he was hurt..
the only thing that savd me, and made him feel better was tht i brought his ring that same day and his band matches mine...

I HAVE A SOLITAIRE PRINCESS CUT AND I THINK IM GOING TO HAVE THIS ISSUE WHEN WE GO FOR BANDS TOO. BUT I HAD ALREADY TOLD HIM FOR OUR 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY I WAS CHANGING THE SETTING (NOT MY DIAMOND) AND HE SAID OK. WE SHALL SEE WHAT HAPPENS.

for me personally my ring has way to much sentimental value..that i couldn't change it..but you have to think that your going to wear your ring for the rest of your life..so get what makes you happy!

You're not lame at all! I love my ring, and while I understand people wanting to change theirs, I couldnt change mine. (FH keeps telling me we'll upgrade in a few years or whatever, I laugh at him and tell him he'll have to pry it off my cold dead hand.)

Re: Oppps......
Well I don't have this problem cuz FH took me ring shopping in Jan 06 and didn't propose until Dec 15, 2006.
So I was waiting patiently that whole time even though I knew what I wanted. I left more pics of the ring I wanted from all angles with sizes, etc. attached all around the house. So he got it right!
He said the guy at the store was laughing when he came in with 6 pictures of the ring printed from different internet sites!

I too am sentimental.....I however was there to help pic out my ring....FH made final decision from a few that I loved....and I am wowed every day by it...I absolutely love me ring...with all the detail on my ring, I have never scene one like it....I am so happy with his final choice, but also the meaning behind it....i don't think in my heart of hearts I would ever give it up...no matter what! This ring is the start of our commitment to the lives we will share....no dollar amount, no person, can change my mind about my ring....for those who think they will have a problem matching the engagement ring to a wedding band...so many places can make a ring to match your engagement ring.....I know FH would be devastated if I changed my ring. all fh's are different and we each know them best.....do what your heart tells you and remember what the ring represents

I love my ring and wouldn't change it, it's perfect for me. And FH walked into Tiffany's all by himself and picked it out! It was a total surprise when he popped the question

LOL this reminded me of the scene in Beetlejuice when he pulls out the ring and its on a finger. I love that movie.

Re: Oppps......
I'll be honest.. even if i felt that i loved the other setting, and FH asked me if i wanted to switch it.. i would have said NO. because FH went out and took the time to pick something that he thought I would love, for me, it represents how he feels about me and it was from his heart, i could never part with that. And honestly i can see how he might be a little hurt by it, not that he wont get over it. but i know that if I bought something that meaningful and improtant and FH wanted to exchange it, i would be devistated, crushed.
However, Im happy for you that you are getting something that you truly love more so... I really am.. and i know how it can feel also to have something that you may not love.

Re: Oppps......
I love my ring but I'm getting a new setting... We are having such a hard time finding a ring that matches my engagement ring and since there isn't and exact match they need to 'custom' make it. So great the least expensive quote I got was for $2000 (platinum) so I was browsing around and found a wedding band I love and it has a engagement ring to match. It's only going to cost me an additional $700 but atleast I know what it's going to look like. See my fiance knows that I need a visual and he was not happy that we would be putting out $2000 and not know what it's going to look like until it gets it. But what if I don't like it so he's playing it safe and getting be a new setting.

completely agree Gina. I am glad that you were able to get the ring you had always dreamed of.....your FH was soo sweet in saying that you change it to what you wanted...even if he was a little hurt.
but i too find my ring too sentimental to ever change anything about it. i mean i didnt know it was coming and Fh picked it out all by himself. learned everything there is to learn abour rings- color, cut, clarity etc and searched for 4 months for the perfect ring. And i wouldnt trade it in for the world since it came from his heart.
but congrats on the new ring. and i am sure FH will come around and realize that he did want you to have what yo uwould be happy with and thats why he told you to get it.
