OPRAHS LEGENDS BALL -

OPRAHS LEGENDS BALL -

why is it that she always manages to turn it into something about or to do w/her?. What was the point of mentioning 'when i was building the bridge at MY house'?? Yes Oprah...We ALL know you have money coming out your damn pores..lol....the whole world know it!! Those women did NOT need more diamonds. It's true what they say..the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

I do love her..don't get me wrong..but I will never understand why 'speaking their name' needed to involve jewels that they damn well can afford on their own.. lol. I think the luncheon and poem were MORE than enough to show how much they meant to her. How about speaking their name and making a donation to charities or countries that can actually USE the $$$, like New Orleans, or Ethiopia, or HEY...US BRIDES!!! LOL! Have you seen ANY of these 'legends' wearing the earrings lateley?? Ummm..no. Not unless they are making a special appearance on HER show. UGH! lol

SORRY JUST NEEDED TO VENT!

I loved how all those crazy rich women were freaking out about earrings they could buy on their own. That was odd.

Maybe we should just be happy with what she does give away. Not everyone would do the things she does for charity.

I didn't see what went on last night, but Oprah does an amazing amount of stuff for charities, in this country and all over the world. I applaud her efforts.

Personally, I'm bothered by the term 'Crazy Rich Women' Each and everyone of those women have accomplished things in life that I know I would never be able to over come. There were not only women there being honored but men as well. Yea they may be rich, and yes they could afford it on their own, but whose to say that they shouldn't be overwhelmed at what was presented to them as a gift.
I can afford my own wedding but my parents have contributed so should I not 'freak out' over the gesture.
Oprah has done soo much for sooo many different people, and countries it would be crazy to go donw the line, and b/c she puts on a hour special about a 'Legend's (b/c that's what they are)Ball', and gives out jewels theres a problem....
SO WHAT! Theres alot of many other million/billionaires that can be investing their money on things other than themselves as well.
At the end of the day, it's their money, and they can do whatever they want w/ it.

Hmmmmmm. I saw the Legend's Ball and was personally moved by Oprah's gesture to honor those who are Legends to her and who made a difference is her life and the lives of many others. The Legend's Ball was not about Oprah at all. I am not sure how or why anyone would glean from that program that it was in any way about Oprah It was about honoring people for their gifts to the world as a whole while they are still alive to receive the praise. Did you not see the part when Oprah mentioned how so many people get tons of cards and truck loads of flowers at their funeral but when they are alive nobody makes mentioned of the great things they have accomplished

Oprah does tons for charity and she gives away millions of her OWN money all the time - in the US and abroad. Oprah's fundraising activities and her angel network are a means by which she helps everyone else contribute - those of us who cannot write a check for $1 million to help build a school or to build houses in New Orleans. You can sponsor a house or buy registry items to furnish a house. It's all about giving at a level you can afford https://www.oprah.com/uyl/angel/donate/uyl_angel_donate.jhtml

Maybe the poem and luncheon were enough in your mind to honor her Legends but obviously she wanted to do something more. She can afford to do more so she did And she could afford to open up her home - her huge home with grounds to hold hundreds of guests and a stage - to have such an amazing event. Having a judge at the courthouse marry you the day after you get your license is more than enough to constitute a wedding but most of us on this website planned something far more extravagant.

As for the parting gift, it was the same as a favor anyone else would give for such an event but she could afford and wanted to give something more extravagant. Why not just be pleased that she was able to pull off such a beautiful event instead of being catty about a gift she decided to pay for and give to her guests with HER MONEY I'm sure that most wedding guests can afford the favor that they are given and that many of them do not ever use the favor So what if the women have not been seen wearing the parting gifts That does not mean they did not appreciate them. We could afford to purchase every gift we received for the wedding but should we not appreciate the gifts since we could have bought them on our own

I should hope that all of your guests appreciated the favor(s) each of you select to give (if you give a favor at all) although none of you may ever see your guests use the favor

I imagine that the majority of people who watched the Legends Ball were moved by it rather than taking any offense to Oprah's gesture We all know that she has mega bucks but instead of being the typical celebrity, she gives as much as she can in money and more importantly her TIME to helping others - time in between her show, her magazine, building a school for girls in Africa and whatever other things she has going on in her hectic life. I wish that other celebrities would follow her example.

Now this I have to applaud . I my self was moved by the show while watching the show w/ my 4yr old daughter. I didn't expect her to understand every aspect of the event but I wanted her to see for herself individuals that while growing up I learned about. I only wish that if not myself that she would be able to experience something so extraordinary as that in her life time.

Wow. Okay. I meant 'crazy' as in 'very' but I guess that's not the issue here. I think the whole event was a really lovely tribute and well deserved by most (I didn't watch the whole thing so I can't say all). I guess I am just always amazed at the amount of expensive things given to people who do not need it. I certainly wasn't trying to make a comparison to you and your wedding. Of course I think all of us would be extremely appreciative if our parents help us out, but I also think these are totally different topics. Sorry to have bothered you. I guess I will stick with wedding only topics from here on out because I don't want to get in trouble again!

I loved the show. We need more women to come together and show support for one another.
It was the best thing on TV last night.
Well worth the wait.

I know what you mean. Like instead of giving jewlery, make a donation to a charity, or give the necklace to a poor child.

What would a 'POOR CHILD' as you put it need with a necklace

i dont know..if i could afford to give out diamonds as a party favor, i would! plus i really cant bash Oprah ...she does give alot ot charity

I thought their reactions showed how down to earth they are despite all they have accomplished in there lives. They paved the way for many African American Woman. Depsite there riches they were appreciative of the gift unlike other stars who would just expect it or give it away.

So many ppl are honored but no one history has honored these woman the way they were yesterday and even then Oprah said it wasnt enough. I still want to know where Beyonce was though
