Has anyone ordered a dress that needed a hem to hollow measurement and no alterations? If so has the salon told you they need to charge an additional fee for this?
I feel like this is a bogus fee b/c the only alterations i need is a bustle - am i just cynical?

Re: Ordering a hem to hollow dress
i had to have a hollow to hem measurement which cost me around 150 dollars. the only alterations i will need, if any are needed, will be in the bodice area.
i think the manufacturers of dresses charge bridal salons to make a dress according to a hollow to hem measurement, so that's why they charge you for it (of course, there's probably a little profit for them as well).

Re: Ordering a hem to hollow dress
I was concerned b/c they originally told me that alterations were a minimum of $150 and then when i told them the dress i am ordering and that all i needed was a bustle they came up with a fee that happened to be the same price as the minimum for alterations- so i got suspicious.
Thank you!!

ya my hollow to hem measurement and alteration cap were different. my alteration cap is 150 dollars. i think 150 for HtoH is pretty standard.

I had a hem to hollow dress also...They did not charge me extra for this...It was a custom measurement in order to order the dress...The only alterations that I need for the dress will be my bustle...
My dress actually came in back in march & thet had to send it back to the manufacturer bc the hem to hollow measurement was off...
I made a mistake, mine was $100 but it was a charge that was done by the factory, so it was just added into the dress total

Re: Ordering a hem to hollow dress
Yea, I had to get a hem to hollow too. Didn't really know what it was and thought it was kinda weird. It cost me $100 and then it was capped. So basically it was like paying for the alterations beforehand and not needing as much later. Luckily my train is detachable so I don't need to pay for the bustle.

it is when there is too much detail on the bottom of the dress that they need to do a custom measurement from your hips to the floor...This way there are no alterations that will be done after the dress is complete for length

I wore a Mon Cheri hollow-to-hem dress. There was a charge of $100 added to the price of the dress. Alterations are seperate from this charge. I needed my dress to be taken in a little in the waist and then the bustle. I went to a private seamstress for the work, since I would have been charged a minimum of $150 at the bridal salon. For everything (cups too) she charged only $80.
