ok this maybe a silly question. how can you order a dress without trying it on? I went to my first bridal shop last night and found out if they don't have a sample with your size your basically out of luck & they just take your measurements and order. Suppose when they get in & try it on & don't like it. Is this the procedure for all the salons???
thanks

Re: Ordering Dresses
It is that way everywhere..I unfortunately wasn't one of the girls that got the clips to make the dress smaller. I was the one with half my back hanging out in the mirror!

Re: Ordering Dresses
I wouldn't order a dress until I tried it on. What if it looks great in the picture but doesn't go w/ your body type

Re: Ordering Dresses
Some (but few ) shops have 2 versions of the dress one large size and one small size. When I went to bridal reflections they used the clips to size it down for me. The dress I actually bough at Elenna's didnt quite fit so the lady there held the top hook closed for me. But it is a very common practice for the dress shops to only have one size, but you can absolutely get a good idea of how it will look

Re: Ordering Dresses
I was very wary of going dress shopping too (there is no way I would fit into a sample size 10 dress - aka size 6 or so in normal clothing sizes). BUT it turned out to be better than I thought. You can absolutely get an idea of how the dress is going to look on you, even if it doesn't zip up in the back. I really wanted to lose over 20 lbs for the wedding, but I was able to find the dress of my dreams anyway and still get a good idea of how it would fit.
If the zipper doesn't close, they can always use a panel to try to close the dress, or clip each side onto your bra, etc.
Don't worry - go try on some dresses and you'll see. Also, if you want to get an idea of different styles in your size, try David's Bridal first. They usually have most sizes of each dress in stock for you to try on.

Re: Ordering Dresses
I tried on a sample size of 12 in most dresses or a 10 and i am normally a 14 and they got it on me and clipped the backs or laced it up very loosly for me to get the idea. Now i don't know how it works if the sample is bigger on you i guess they can clip it and cinch it best as possible and then you kinda get concept.
One dress which is fitted i couldn't get on my hips so i had to waddle out and I LOVE the dress but wished I could see it fitted on me as well. Keep searching but no places have a size that i cna fit in. I would say get as close as possible and use imagination or call up the manufacturer to see where they have larger samples.

Re: Ordering Dresses
you can still get a pretty good idea of how the dress will look on you when you try it on. all the dresses i tried were way too big for me and had to be clipped in the back. i would definitely not order a dress without trying the sample on first even though you've tried dresses similar to it. i also did a lot of hunting for dresses at different salons in order to try them on first and see what i look like in them. but i did a lot of research on line looking at pics and trying to remember what style of dresses looked good with my figure. happy hunting!
