Organizing

Where do you store all your papers/booklets for appliances etc.. in your home? Where do you keep all other papers and things of that nature?

Re: Organizing

Most important papers go into file cabients in our office. But we are not nearly as organized as I would like. We have lots of bookshelves and appliance manuals and stuff like that go in there pretty randomly. We have CDs all over the house in various spots.

Ive been watching that show Clean Sweep for ideas but nothing Ive seen will work for me.

I put them in a file folder in our hanging file cabinet. Or, the smaller ones in a zip lock bag in a drawer in the kitchen. But somehow a few get loose are thrown here and there!

Re: Organizing

I have 2 large binders filled with heavy duty sheet protectors and I put all my manuals/product information in them. I have tabs sorting them by room. I keep the 2 binders on my desk in the basement. So far this system works great for me - the only change I may make is to make a separate binder for kitchen manuals and keep it in the kitchen. Right now I tend to look at those the most and it would be easier if they were close by.

I've been watching clean sweep too! Did you see the bathroom one where they helped a news anchor organize her bathroom? It was inspiring I put drawers under my cabinet in the bathroom to organize my makeup and make it more accessible.

The binders are a good idea! They will definitely look a lot neater than the overstuffed folder I have in one of my desk drawers.

No i didnt see the bathroom one...i hope they re-air it.

There is a container store opening near my job soon and im very excited. I love that store!! Hopefully it will inspire me to get organized.

As for the manuals - does anyone actually look at these after they have purchased the item. I honestly dont know why i save them b/c I NEVER use them!

Re: Organizing

The only manual I ever look at is the stove. For self-cleaning and delayed cooking and things like that. That one is in the kitchen though. The ones that are stuffed in my drawer are neglected

Re: Organizing

We have a 'home' folder and inside I keep manuals, warrenty info, even the paint color strips to each room. I have looked at the manuals a few times when I need to figure out something such as I had an error code on my washer once (when we first got it).

I have a Memory Box, which is basically a box that I have had since I was in Jr. High. I have letters, cards, one of my Sweet 16 party balloons, things that I consider my Jr. High/HS/College memories.
I went thru it a few years ago and removed some stuff that I felt was not really special and it is in a date order for the most part.
I had to start a new one after College. I put in my special cards that I want to keep, ticket stubs etc..I go thru my new box once a year to weed out anything I decide is not really needed.

I LOVE that clean sweep show and want them to come to my house!! One thing they said that I loved was when the homeowner had an old, falling apart, dirty cooler full of 'memory stuff' and she said she had to keep it all. Well the host said, 'if these are your memories treat them with the respect they deserve. You cannot care about this at all' And he was right. If you do not treat your important stuff properly, then why keep it at all.

Re: Organizing

I have them in a file cabinet...but I should change to my mothers system...in the cabinet above the stove (or refridge) that you can't reach and put stuff you never use...
