O/T - Follow up about my sick cat

Original post by Elizabeth

If you read my post from the other day, you will recall that my one cat is very sick...and then was seemingly doing better. Well, I had to put Max to sleep today. I'm so heartsick over it but her lungs were filling with fluid again meaning that she was definitely not responding to the medicine. She's been purring non-stop since she got home, which is not always a sign of happiness & contentment. Scared, sick & even dying cats purr. This morning I could see her breathing was much more labored and she was almost wheezing. She could barely lift her head and her eyes were just glazed over. I was going to stay in the room while she was euthanized but when they brought her back in, I couldn't do it. My mind started playing tricks on me like she was fine and I was being too hasty about making this decision. Derek stayed with her while I went in the waiting room with Luke. Thank God he's small enough that my weeping was meaningless to him. When I came home, I could see her hair on the bed where she was lying and I keep crying when I look at it. The good thing (if you can call it good) is that the vet will keep Max until next week. We are closing on our house on Monday and we will bury her in the yard. I couldnt just leave her there and would rather she was with me in Massapequa although I am very sad to think she won't really be there with me.

My 13 y.o. nephew is visiting from Atlanta so I did go out with him today to take my mind off it, he felt good like he was cheering me up - even though he kicked my butt at mini-golf and Scrabble. My heart is heavy tonight. Thanks again for all the supportive words of kindness on my last post. I really appreciate it.

I truly feel for you -
I have had to part with two of my furry friends so far in my life - and it never gets easier. I lost my first dog when I was 17 and the 2nd just last year.
They are truly a part of our families and it's just as painful to lose them.
However, as painful as it is - I would never be able to live w/o a dog.
I now have Dolly who has been with us for the past 4 years - and oneday I am going to have to grieve her loss too - but when they are with us they add so much happiness to our lives.
I'm so sorry for your great loss - as painful as it is right now the pain will go away and you will someday be able to think of him and smile.
I'm so glad to hear that you will be burying him in your new home - I like hearing that...
you never forget them - As I said I lost my first dog when I was 17 - she was my childhood dog 'Lady' and I have so many memories of her -
Again, sorry for your loss...

Elizabeth, I am so sorry for your loss.

We were forced to put our eldest cat to sleep 2 weeks before we moved to our new home. Kidney failure. It was incredibly painful....but in an odd way, a blessing. He was so frail, I do not think he could have handled the stress of the move. If he had to 'go', I was glad his last moments were in a home that he felt comfortable in.

Perhaps you can find some comfort in knowing that your cat spent their last days in a home that they loved....

We had Sidney cremated. I still have him in a box. I planned on putting him in our new garden so he'd be with us in our new home but I haven't been able to bring myself to deal with it again.

Please feel free to FM me if you need support. I will say a prayer...
