If you read my post from the other day, you will recall that my one cat is very sick...and then was seemingly doing better. Well, I had to put Max to sleep today. I'm so heartsick over it but her lungs were filling with fluid again meaning that she was definitely not responding to the medicine. She's been purring non-stop since she got home, which is not always a sign of happiness & contentment. Scared, sick & even dying cats purr. This morning I could see her breathing was much more labored and she was almost wheezing. She could barely lift her head and her eyes were just glazed over. I was going to stay in the room while she was euthanized but when they brought her back in, I couldn't do it. My mind started playing tricks on me like she was fine and I was being too hasty about making this decision. Derek stayed with her while I went in the waiting room with Luke. Thank God he's small enough that my weeping was meaningless to him. When I came home, I could see her hair on the bed where she was lying and I keep crying when I look at it. The good thing (if you can call it good) is that the vet will keep Max until next week. We are closing on our house on Monday and we will bury her in the yard. I couldnt just leave her there and would rather she was with me in Massapequa although I am very sad to think she won't really be there with me.
My 13 y.o. nephew is visiting from Atlanta so I did go out with him today to take my mind off it, he felt good like he was cheering me up - even though he kicked my butt at mini-golf and Scrabble. My heart is heavy tonight. Thanks again for all the supportive words of kindness on my last post. I really appreciate it.

Re: O/T - Follow up about my sick cat
Elizabeth I am so sorry to hear that Max didn't make it. You did the right thing though, and as much as you are hurting, she isn't in pain anymore and that is the most important thing.
Many hugs to you

I am so sorry about Max. Just know that he is not suffering and that you did the right thing. I know how difficult it is to lose a pet. I lost 2 within a year of each other of old age. They're not here long but they bring so much joy. Just know that the time he was with you,was very happy. You did the right thing. You put him first and he's not suffering.

Elizabeth, I am so sorry to hear about your cat. I know this is a very hard and difficult time. My husband and I had to put our beautiful cat to sleep two year ago. It is very difficult. Just remember that Max had a wonderful life with you and you made the right decision. You didn't let her suffer anymore.
My thoughts are with you.

I'm so sorry to read about Max. You made a very difficult decision but it was the best decision for Max. It's so heartbreaking to see a beloved pet suffer.

Thank you everyone, it really really helps. I've been crying on and off, mainly last night as I was able to lie there thinking. You have to mourn so I am allowing myself that.

Elizabeth, I am so sorry to hear about Max. You did a very unselfish thing by letting him go.
Loosing a pet can be so heart wrenching and it will take time. We're here if you need anything.
