Our 10/5/02 wedding review (very long)

Well first off I want to thank you all for your help and support. Planning a wedding can be pretty hard, but planning one from out of state can be kind of scary and quite difficult at times. I really relied a lot on these boards and you girls were always there for me, I don't think I could ever thank you all enough, you helped to make our day a very special one.

OK, onto my reviews...
The Dress, invitations, shoes, rings and favors were all purchased in Florida, so if anyone is planning from the Ft. Lauderdale area let me know and I will be more than happy to give you that info. I was very happy with all of them, especially where I got my dress.

Rehearsal Dinner was held at The Printers Devil in Port Jeff. Dinner was delicious and it was a great way to start our weekend.

Church . Our ceremony was held at the Infant Jesus Chapel in Port Jeff with Father Chuck performing the ceremony. He was so laid back and helped walk us through the whole thing. It was just as I had imagined it.

BM Dresses were purchased at David's Bridal. Each of my BM lives in a different area so I'm not sure which stores they went to but they all had their alterations done elsewhere (one is from FL, one from NJ, two from PA and two from NY). They all had a good experience with them.

Tuxes were from Black Tie Tuxedo. My HUSBAND (I love being able to say that) said he worked with Mark who was very helpful. None of the boys are from NY so they all had to get measured elsewhere and call in their measurements. Three of the tuxes did not fit right but it was all taken care of on Friday.

Limos - we got a 24 passenger Caddy Escalade from High Society Limos. The boys really loved this. The driver was very professional and very helpful. They were on time for the first pick up but due to traffic it was a little late getting to me (we had the one car pick up they boys and drop them off at the chapel then it came to my aunts house to pick up me and the girls). Our driver also helped us out of a bit of a jam....our photographer didn't know the area and we wanted to go to a beach for pictures but didn't know where to go, so our driver was able to get directions from my aunt and we found a beautiful spot called Cedar Beach.

Florist - James Cress. I really didn't have much of an idea of what I wanted when I went in. All I told Gary was that I wanted cala lilies and I showed him a pic of my dress and the BM dresses. He went over a couple of ideas and I was SO happy with the results! From what I am told originally the alter flowers and pew decorations were first brought to the church instead of the chapel so they were a bit late getting there but they got there before I did so I wouldn't have known if my grandmother hadn't told me.

DJ - Spin Around Sound. Well lets just say my husband had to pull me off the dance floor so that I would eat. It was a little hard to get in touch with Tom last week but he told me they were really crazy plus he was on a charity golf outing the day I called. I found the quickest way to get to him was through email. Rob was our DJ that night and he did a great job, not too much MCing just like we asked.

Cake was provided by the hall through Create-A-Cake. I brought them a picture of what we wanted and it turned out great and oh so yummy. I can't wait to though it out and eat it again next year. We got a chocolate cake with cannoli filling and butter cream icing. Yummy!!

Photography/videography was through Park Ave. Studio. Both our photographer (Tracey) and our videographer (Gregory) were very easy to work with. I can't wait to see the final results.

Make-Up was done by Thea. I'm sorry but I forget what mall she works out of(I can find out from my cousin if anyone is interested) but she is at the Lancome (sp?) counter. My trial was free since I went to the mall and on the day of she charged $75 to come to us. She did a great job! I'm not real big on make-up so I didn't want anything too much and she did a wonderful job. In fact after she finished me; my mom, aunt and my MOH all decided to have theirs done as well. She was so funny too which really helped to calm my nerves.

Hair - This is the one vendor that I really wasn't happy with. Tapastry Hair Salon. When I booked my trial I told them that I wanted to book the appointments for the day of the wedding as well. They told me they would block off our time needed and that I could just tell them the exact number and names when I came in for my trial. I was very happy with my trial but when I told them that I wanted to give them the numbers and names for the wedding day they didn't have us down and they were already booked from 8am on . But they said that two of the girls would come in early that morning for us. So, we wound up having to start our day at 6am I am NOT a morning person but what could we do. So my cusin and I went in first and we were running a little late and the woman practally yelled at us for not being on time.....HELLO it was their fault we all had to be there that early. Then she made a comment to me about why we had to be out of there by 8am if it was a 3:30 ceremony.....I told her I never said that and the only reason we were there so early was because I was told that was the only time they would be able to fit us in...and she said, oh well I guess the other people cancelled!!!! Then to top it off they charged us all an additional $10 because it was before their normal business hours and an additional $5 because it was the day of the wedding. I was never told this beforehand and it was THEIR fault we all had to go in early...and why the extra charge just because it was the day of?!?

Reception Hall - Finally our reception was held at Danford's on the Sound. I was a little concerned about the split floor plan when I first saw it but it actually turned out not to be a problem at all. In fact it was kind of nice because people who weren't up dancing didn't have to scream to hear eachother speak and both families were all in the same room. And since the weather was so nice we were able to have our cocktail hour outside by the docks. It was wonderul and all the workers there including our matre d and our personal server were so helpful. At the end of the night they brought all of our prsents up to our suite and left us each a piece of cake and a bottle of champaigne. It was perfect.

The whole day was like a dream. I couldn't have asked for a better day to start my life with my new HUSBAND.

P.S. We decided to wait to go on our honeymoon until Feb. because my husband does a lot of traveling with his job. He hadn't been home since mid June so we wanted him to be able to come home first, plus we didn't want to have to worry about packing for both the trip TO the wedding PLUS the honeymoon.

I'll try to post some pics later.

Re: Our 10/5/02 wedding review (very long)

Congrats ApplesFla! It all sounds wonderful! (*except the hair place)
FMIL and I were at Tommy's Place in Port Jeff having dinner and Drinks Saturday evening and we walked past Danford's (from where we parked the car) and I remarked to her 'What a beautiful wedding group...they look like they are having fun, don't they?' And it was you! Looked lovely!
We considered Danford's but ultimately had too many people for the room...but we are using them for the Rehearsal Dinner and for a wedding block of rooms - and for our wedding night. Did you stay there as well? How did they treat you?

Re: Our 10/5/02 wedding review (very long)

Congrads and thank you for your reviews. You have always been a very helpful bride on this board. Looking forward to seeing some pictures!

I am using SAS for my wedding in a couple of weeks. I was just told today that Rob and Rio will be doing my event. Any words of advice? How extensive of a music list did you give SAS? Besides my initial meeting I haven't had much contact with them. Today, my FI spoke with Tom who said a month before you should send in your music info. Well, we missed that date so we have to do it all this weekend (We have no clue what our song will be.) ANy advice on SAS in general?

Congrats - everything sounds lovely.

I don't understand the extra charge for the day of the wedding either. Doesn't help to get it done much before then does it? Maybe you should say something to the owner/manager?

Oh well, YOU'RE MARRIED - that's all that counts!
