July 2, 2011 - Our 1.5 yr :)

Well, We had been shopping for rings and I knew he had bought one in APRIL. Imagine my patience by the time July came! Sooo I was totally expecting it on this day because he told me to 'buy a dress' for our day in the city. So we head into the city, we go to the Central Park Zoo, we sit down on a bench and he had the perfect opportunity to propose. So he tells me all these nice things and how much he loves me etc, so I'm waiting for it and NOTHING. So we go to dinner and he suggests he walk back to Central Park (10 BLOCKS!) to relax for a bit. So we stop and pick up snacks and a blanket to relax on. We sit down and he goes through the whole 'I love you' bit again and ends with 'We better get going or we're gonna miss the train'. !!!!!! Really?! I was SO stumped and def disappointed. I figured I was an idiot for getting so excited for nothing. We take the train home and I'm so tired at this point. We get home and he tells me he has one more surprise for me for our 'anniversary'. So I close my eyes in my room and he starts telling me how much he loves me and really goes into detail then and tells me to turn around.

*Quick background* Last yr he painted a mural of a tree on my wall but never finished it, it really need some more flowers and I always was knocking him for not finishing it!*

So I turn around and he had bought these 3D flowers for the mural and my ring was hanging from one! He had a whole speech that tied the tree into our relationship and things. It was super sweet!

Can't wait to hear everyone else's stories!

Re: Our board is soooo quiet!

FH proposed to me on June 5th, 2011.

I had surprised FH with a trip to Vegas to celebrate his 30th birthday. We were on our 4th night in Vegas. We had been having an amazing time sight seeing, lounging by the pool and going to some shows. That night we went to the Tournament of the Kings show. After, we played like little kids in the arcade and then took off to the strip to walk around. We went to the Eiffel Tower @ the Paris Hotel, went to the water show at the Bellagio and after we went looking for a place to get some dessert. We found a place and walked back towards a outdoor seating area they have by Caesar's Palace.

It was about a quarter to midnight and FH tells me he wanted to go to the water fountain to make a wish before his birthday hit at midnight. (FH bday is June 6th). So we walk over and are enjoying the pretty views of the fountain. I'm standing there waiting for him to pull a quarter out of his pocket to make his wish when he comes from behind me and puts his arms around me and is thanking me for the trip, he tells me how hes been having such an amazing time, how I made 1 of his wishes come true by bringing him to Vegas (he hadn't been b4). He then says I want to know if you will make one of my other wishes come true?

From that moment I knew what he was about to do and I began to smile really big and I stood frozen and speechless for a few seconds. I turn to him and he asks me again and I say what wish is that? He then pulls the ring box out of his pocket and opens it up and he tells me how much he loves me and wants to be with me forever. Then he cracks a joke about having bad knees and having to to bend down on 1 knee.. So he gets down on 1 knee and looks up into my eyes and says Jasmine will you marry me? I was teary eyed and had a huge smile on my face and of course I said YES!

Re: Our board is soooo quiet!

I actually had 2 engagements! LOL

My 'first' one, we had gone to Portugal for a family vacation with my whole entire family.. for 3 weeks! (I know.. poor FH) LOL But we had a good time! Unfortunately, my grandmother was sick for a large part of the time we were there and fh wanted to include her in the proposal (She can't come to US). So in front of my family on my 3rd anniversary, he asked my parents for my hand in marriage and proposed! I was crying, he was crying, it was a cute hot mess! LOL Unfortunately.. he had left the ring in the US.. he hadn't planned on proposing abroad. LOL

So when we got back, he took an afternoon off from work and since the semester is starting, I assumed it was for him to prepare and get his supplies. He asked me if I wanted to go to dinner so we did. On the way back, he suggested we go to the Pond where he first asked me to be his girlfriend.. Womp wompp! It started down pouring to the point we couldn't even see where we were driving!! When we got home, I rushed to the bathroom to change and when I got back, there he was on his knee! =)

luveiduv, that's really nice! It's great that they can still surprise us like that :).

Jassy, I love your story. It's too cute and I bet you'll never forget that trip. BTW - You got engaged three days after me! :)

IrishBride, your pictures are TO DIE FOR! I wish I had pictures of my face in that moment. Also, the picture of your make-up is amazing! Who did it?

We got engaged on June 2nd, 2011 (My Birthday).

FH loves to cook. He told me ahead of time that he was going to make me a Birthday Dinner at home and that it would be five courses. I was like, 'Wow, that's a lot of work, especially for a weeknight!' But he wanted to do it and I knew he was excited, but I just figured it was because he liked to cook so much.

When I got home from work on my Birthday, I walked in the door and he said, 'Stay in the dining room! I'm going to bring everything out to you!' So, I sat down in the dining room seat with my back to the kitchen. He came out with a black menu folder that he made himself from scratch with cardboard and velvet fabric (He went to AC Moore by himself!! LOL).
He handed me the menu and said, 'This is what you'll be eating tonight.' I said, 'OMG, you put so much effort into this! It's just my birthday!' When I opened the menu, it had each course listed with a piece of fabric covering a picture and name of each dish. So, I lifted each fabric flap to reveal what each course would be:
Appetizer: Shrimp Cocktail
Salad: Grilled Salmon Caesar Salad
First Entree: Seared Bay Scallops in a Beurre Blanc sauce
Second Entree: Shrimp Risotto
Dessert: WILL YOU MARRY ME?!

I nearly fell off the chair. I was absolutely floored and utterly shocked. I started crying immediately. I felt overcome with happiness and this sense of love, like I had never really known before. He was down on one knee to my right holding the ring.

I've known this man since I was 12 years old and I'd be lying if I said I always knew I'd marry him, but I did know that we'd always be in each other's lives. It wasn't until after college that we started dating, and that time spent together has been the best part of my life so far.

He really is wonderful and I know how lucky I am to have him. Okay, I'ma go wipe my eyes now, LOL!

Keep the stories coming, ladies!!

ETA: He later told me he bought the ring six months after we started dating and held onto it ever since for the perfect moment.

About a year! Our Anniversary is November 1st. I know a year and a half isn't a ton of dating time, but we were already living together and we've known each other forever.

Here's a picture from that night:

And let me tell you, the food was gooood!

LOVE IT! I can't believe he held onto the ring for a whole year w/o you finding out or him slipping or getting too anxious lol

FH moved in with me just 4 onths after we started dating and we got engaged just a lil over 8 months after dating! Seems fast but I guess when you know and feel its right thats all that matter. We knew each other b4 hand to though, although we weren't close but still counts! ha!

Re: Our board is soooo quiet!

If I had any hint that a ring was coming, Matt's attitude the week of the proposal definitely would have thrown me off! He was such a jerk all week. On Friday, 12/3, when I left work I called him to see if I should wait for him to get home, to go to dinner. But Matt's response was that he didn't care. (PS day before, I realized his parents would be away so I asked if I was staying with him and he says 'if you want' like he didn't care which pissed me off too) So, after another attempt, I called FH again and when I heard his bluetooth I knew he was on his way home. But he argued that he was at work and he will call me later. i'm like 'I hear cars. I know your are in the car.' He yelled at me 'I work on Astoria blvd! There's cars everywhere!' So I told him I was calling the firehouse. He was like 'go ahead, psycho'. I didn't call, but I knew he was lying so now I have all these crazy thoughts. He texted me at 7, and told me to come over at 8. I was soo annoyed at this point. But, I arrived to a candlelit dinner, a vase of roses and a card on the table. When asked what the roses are for, Matt said, 'you deserve them'. Then, me being the b*tch I am, just can't be nice, was like 'YES. Yes, i do bc you've been an @$$h0le all week' The card was how the last 5 years with me have been amazing and he can't wait to see what the next 5 years bring. I started to weep. Dinner talk was casual and then I thought nothing about it. While cleaning, I grabbed the tray of garlic and oil string beans. As I did, Matt got on one knee holding a ring behind me and said 'I have something else for you, too'. As I turned around, I kicked him and knocked him onto 2 knees, so the poor kid looked like he was begging. In the same turn when seeing Matt in position, I flung the string beans ALL over the wall, the carpet, the chairs...I just started crying uncontrollably and shaking. He was teary. Super cute. I remember calling my mom and shes like 'Where's Matt now?' I'm like, 'umm he's scrubbing the carpet.' To this day neither of us know what was said.. Something about 'love' and 'wife'... But, YES!
PS-he did lie about being at work so he could get home and cook. He was texting my bff (MoH) and telling her I was driving him nuts and he doesn't want to do it now. LOL He said if I did call his firehouse, he wasn't asking!)

We got engaged a little before 5 years and are getting married on our 7 year anniversary. ---I'm usually not this nuts, I promise...

Re: Our board is soooo quiet!

Awwwww everyone's stories are soo incredible!!! We seriously have a group of amazing men!!!

Sooo my story... please bear with me its kinda long lol. FH and I were dating for a year and a half. I had seen a text message (by accident I swear) he sent my sister about proposing in December when we went to see the tree at Rockefeller Center with my family. I was sooo excited and got all done up then nothing. I later found out that he was freaking out about asking my dad if he could marry me (he looks kinda scary but hes a sweetie lol) and since he hadnt, he couldnt propose.

Anyways, he had picked out the most amazing ring I had ever seen when we were visiting his aunt in Arizona and I fell in love with it, but it wasn't a ring they carried normally. It was from the jeweler they use that does shows all over the country. Well, I went to every Gordons Jewelers in NY to find this ring and couldnt anywhere, but one was having a show like the one we had seen in Arizona at the end of March. I begged him to go see if it was there and he told me we'd look but couldnt buy anything bc he was out of work at the time. We got to the jeweler, found the ring, and they kept trying to sell it to him and I felt sooo terrible cuz I knew he couldnt get it and that I would just have to settle for another ring, which I was fine with - it couldve been a ring from a quarter machine as long as I got to spend the rest of my life with him which is what I told him all the time. I kept pulling him away to look at other things so he wuldnt feel bad. He and his sister started looking at watches so I felt a little better and went to another store with my sister. Well, little did I know he bought the ring that night while I was in the store across from him and a week later told me he had to work late and went to pick it up.

So our birthdays are 11 days apart and we decided we wanted to do something special and celebrate them together. So I set up a vineyard/wine tasting tour for us, our families, and 15 of our friends. Everyone met at my house and I had gotten champagne so we could do a toast thanking everyone for being there. I made my toast and Richie said he had something to add... He went in his pocket, but the ring box got stuck. He was getting down on one knee so I knew what was going on and started crying before he even got the ring out!!! Everyone else knew what was going on and bunch of them were crying too!!! He told me that the past year and a half was the most incredible time of his life and he couldn't imagine the rest of his life without me in it. I think I said yes before he even finished! lol. I could not think of a more perfect way for him to propose!!! Then we got to have a mini-engagement party with everyone we love tasting wine and touring the vineyards... Afterwards we went back to my house and he had planned a party with just our friends to celebrate with the people who couldnt come on the tour with us! It was an amazing day!!!

Re: Our board is soooo quiet!

Everyone has such great stories!!

Sunday morning Gerard said we should go out to dinner because his parents were eating leftovers. My first thought was to go to Orlando’s because he had been dropping hints that he wanted to go to Orlando’s for weeks. Before dinner I wanted to go to the mall to get some Christmas gifts. He spent the whole time asking if we were done and I just thought he wanted to leave because it was crowded. When we finally went back to his house we still had over an hour before our 6 p.m. reservations, but around four 4:45 Gerard wanted to just go because he was hungry. I kept complaining it was to early to leave. Finally at 5:30 I finally agreed to leave for the restaurant.
When we got to the Orlando’s we had a drink at the bar while they “got the table ready.” When they walk us to the back of the restaurant I saw my family (mom, dad, sister) and his family (mom, dad, brother, sister). I knew instantly what was going on. He said his speech and got down on one knee and proposed. Both our families took a million pictures and videos of the proposal. After all the tears and excitement we finally ordered our meals. The waiter we had was the same waiter he has for our first date and the past two valentine’s days. Gerard had plan the whole thing with him almost a month before. After dinner we went back to his parents’ house. His mom got us a balloon, pins, and a cake for us. We took more pictures and had cake and champagne. When everyone left I made Gerard repeat what he said because I did not remember.
