Our new doggie! (pic added!) (updated!)

Original post by bxgell2

I've been begging FH to adopt a doggie from the shelter for months now! I wanted to adopt an older dog whom nobody would want, to save him from imminent death Well, FH went to the doggie pound yesterday and came home with a little suprise... say hi to Sparky!!

And, any suggestions on how to introduce a doggie into a home with a cat are VERY welcome!!

Congrats on your new pup! (No matter what their age, they're always pups to me!)
How truly kind of you to adopt an adult dog.
Lots of luck with Sparky!!!

Update on the doggie/cat integration: we brought them into a little bedroom together to start getting used to each other... some hissing, some growling (sparky shaked in his little booties!)... but eventually they both fell asleep on the bed together! Of course, the kitty woke up, realized she was sleeping next to the devil, hissed a little more, and then fell back asleep...

That is awesome!!!

I just wanted to add that the first dog I brought home as an adult was 10 years old, and he was a rescue & it was the best thing I ever did. He is now 16 years old & he is such a wonderful & grateful dog. This a wonderful thing that you have done for your new doggie!

You did such an awesome thing!! I'm so happy for you all. Don't worry, they'll adjust after awhile. You may not get instant affection between them but they will eventually learn to co-exist w/each other. I'm soo happy for Sparky. He's such a lucky little doggie.
