our nfw experience

Original post by lacey&mark

hello. i had a 2pm appt today with anna at national floral wholesale. short story: we waited 45mins to meet with her before we gave up and left. long story: so we made the drive from selden to bellmore and got there on time at 2pm. we waited at the counter for about 5 mins while anna and her customers were talking at the big table about 3 feet away. anna did not acknowlege our presence, though her customers were nice enough to smile at us. she then called some guy out from the back and he came over to us and asked us what we needed. we told him we have a 2 o'clock appt with anna and he led us to the realestate store connected to nfw (owned by the same freddy i suppose). we then sat in the realeastate place until 2:45, at which point my fi says to me 'there is nothing she can say at this point that will make me want to book her. can you imagine the flowers being 45 mins late for the wedding?'. i was thinking the same thing, so we left. honestly, we would have had no problem waiting if anna or someone would have acknowledged they were running behind and maybe provided us with some books to look at while we wait, but we were left in that place for 45 mins uninterrupted. and let me tell you, that realestate office was gross, the rug was filthy and had 2 dead giant moths on it. not a good experience. if anyone has any florist recommendations i would love to hear them! thanks~lacey

i do not want to spend a lot bc i don't need big fancy flowers at the aquarium bc the fish are the main attraction. hopefully i will find an inexpensive and punctual florist soon. ~lacey

This may sound crazy - but I considered it as I was looking around Atlantis - check out Petco for small fish bowls with Betta Fish in them as centerpieces. I am pretty sure you can get them for about $5.00 a piece (fish and bowl together) and it goes with the motif. I have also seen larger bowls with glass beads at the bottom with a Betta fish and a plant coming out of the top. (those I think are around $20 each)

To me customer service is everything. I am a retailer's daughter and if we ever kept a customer waiting for more than 20 seconds, Dad would get P-O'd. One of the florists we visited wouldn't even think of doing a mock-up centerpiece without going to see the ballroom (which is under construction) just so he could know how big or small they really needed to be. To me, thats working with a customer. (Though we haven't chosen a florist yet)

what happened to NFW? When i booked them last year they seemed great, like a real up and becoming vendor.

I booked them for my upcoming wedding and I'm so scared what will happen!!!!

I can't recommend George from Signature enough.

We went to see him this week and booked him on the spot. He was very friendly, willing to work with us, threw in my tossing bo-K for free, and is doing my LCP for less than $65.

Also the cost he gave me for everything made my jaw drop. It was $800 less than the last quote I had!!!

I couldn't agree more! I stumbled upon George at a bridal expo a few months ago. I called and made an appt. with him the same day I had my appt. with NFW. George gave me a much cheaper quote and was so great to work with. He made me a sample cp without any money down and there was no pressure to book. I cannot recommend him enough.

Re: our nfw experience

thanks all! just to update, anna did leave a msg on my cell phone later on that she didn't know if i came or not, but her coworker said someone was waiting (though i told the coworker who we were and that we had a 2 o'clock with anna), and that she was running about 10-15 mins late with a customer, and she thought maybe i went for a snack...oook, i left at 2:45 on the dot so she was running a little more than 10-15 mins behind. i did fm freddy and he fm'ed me back (with a bunch of spelling/grammar errrors) and he apologized and said he should have been there to help anna today.
so i dont know if i shoud keep my burtons appt bc i am not gonna pay 65 for low centerpieces. i want simple pink and white flowers in a small fish bowl with water and that shouldnt be 65 bucks. i will make and appt with signiture and lablossom. thanks for all the recommendations! ~lacey
ps as far as betas in fish bowls go, i would never do that bc i would not be able to provide homes for the fish after the party. i would not expect guests to leave my party with a pet bc betas require a lot of care. i never understood how this centerpiece works at the end of the night.

Definately give Laurie at LA Blossom a call. She is wonderful, and her prices are very fair.
