My nephew was deployed to iraq back in Feb but hadn't left the country until a few weeks ago. He is now overseas but can not say what country as of yet. He could be in kuwait UAE or iraq.
I am starting to put together a package of little things to send to him to remind him of the good old USA.
What are somethings that I can include that would do just that.
so far i have: juicy fruit gum butterscotch candy charleston chews
what else?????
TIA

Re: Our Soldiers
In packages that other groups have put together they have included chapstick, sunblock, moisture lotion, soap...I guess the troops aren't given this stuff.

Re: Our Soldiers
If you think he is in Iraq send wipes. That is a great commodity over there because of the sand.

Re: Our Soldiers
Thank you all
If anyone else know some brave soldier, i found this
Dunkin Donuts donates the coffee Passed on by supporter Kelly Bishop on 4 Mar 05: Dunkin Donuts will send a case (24 one pound bags) to anyone serving in Iraq. Dunkin Donuts donates the coffee and pays all the shipping costs. Go to www.dunkindonuts.com Fill out the form in the 'comments' section. Put the soldiers name and APO address. Also state you would like them to send your soldier coffee Click on 'submit' They are getting a lot of requests so it may take a little time. You can also write with the same info to: Dunkin Brands 130 Royall Street Canton, MA 02121 Or call customer relations at 781-737-3000 (they are very friendly and helpful)

Re: Our Soldiers
How about a phone card? It will make it a little easier to for him to call home.

Re: Our Soldiers
I put together a care package a while back. The guys were asking for WD-40, things for their feet, powder, things for athletes foot. Anthony & I sent 10 FDNY shirts and they were given to soldiers from NY for christmas. They liked NY stuff and told us they were reminded of why they were there. They asked for slim jims and cookies, razors, shaving cream, deoderant, toothpaste, and writing supplies.
Im sure they will enjoy anything.

Re: Our Soldiers
my students and I had a penpal in Iraq. We sent a lot of the things mentioned above, but what the soliders need vary based on where they are. You can always send magazines, cards, silly kid toys (believe it or not they loved things like yo yos and stuff), any candy that does not melt, phone cards, wipes, nerf footballs, antibacterial hand gel, etc. There is a site called anysoldier.com where soldiers write in and tell how they are doing and what they need. People can mail them needed items if they want. Their posts may give you some more ideas.
We did the DD thing for our solider too. I don't know if he ever received it! I think it's so nice of them!

Re: Our Soldiers
when my brother was over there he would always ask for baby wipes.
he also liked the little packages of tuna that came with the crackers and all of the fixins.
he told me jolly ranchers are bad luck, so don't send them

Re: Our Soldiers
This may sound strange but... I used to sell Tupperware. A small piece of Tupperware may be able to keep all of those edible things from going bad assuming he has the space for it.
