I am a newbie, although I have been checking out other people's posts for awhile.
I am planning my wedding from out-of-state. It is next September. So far I have my photographer, videographer and DJ.
What else should I be doing now? Sometimes I feel so out of the loop!
Any recommendations for hair, makeup, flowers, cakes?
I will be getting ready in Suffolk in the East Islip area and the reception is in Massapequa at the Riviera.

Re: Out-of-State Planner
Hi,
I am planning my wedding from out of state and feel the same way. I only have the reception and ceremony locations booked and a band. If I come across a good vendor that I go see (I will be on LI doing wedding stuff on a few weekends in Jan), I will let you know. Let me know if you find anything good. How much was your photographer and videographer if you don't mind me asking?

Re: Out-of-State Planner
I haven't decided on my photo package yet, but it is in the $3-5K range. I LOVED the photographer though...Christine at Spelman Studios and her work was gorgeous! The only other photographer I liked was about the same price, but I loved Christine and she gives you a lot for your money...and with a big family I will need lots of pics to give away!
My videographer's price was great considering what others charge and he does great work....Timeless Treasures Video...it is $1250. for everything.
Have you had any luck with other vendors? I am looking into florists now.
What's your connection to LI? I grew up there, so that is why I am having the wedding there.

Where are you planning from? I had my hair and makeup done at Dea Salon in Islip, which is probably near you!

Re: Out-of-State Planner
Another OTT planner! I grew up in Queens which is why I am getting married in LI. My FH is from NJ so it just works for us. I did everything in one week this past summer; it was insane. I do feel out of the loop, especially when I just want to meet with vendors to review certain things. Email and this site really are my friends!!!

I am getting ready in Great River (East Islip area) so Dea Salon in Islip...could be great. What are their prices like?
As far as getting a wedding planner, I could never do it...I hate having someone tell me what to do!!

Re: Out-of-State Planner
I grew up on LI and actually just moved away this September to Pennsylvania. I have no vendors set yet except a band. I am trying but it is hard to just make appointments on the weekends, they always have weddings. Plus I am finding that so many people are booked already. I liked the videographer you are using , he is booked for my date. He gave me the name of someone else that does video. On top of everything else, my wedding budget is going fast so I am trying to barter with some vendors for their services inchange for web development, that is what I do for a living and own my own company. I will list my vendors as I get them. I am just busy trying to still get a dress, which I just started looking for last week.

Re: Out-of-State Planner
hey girls, I planned my wedding from Rhode Island, with the help of my family...
Sinceits an off season, maybe contact a few vendors you want to meet with, and make some appointments for the weekend. Laurie at LA Blossom comes very highly recommended for flowers...I used Kim-Jon Designs, based out of SOuthampton for mine and have hnothing but praise for all the hard work and beautiful flowers...
Website is: www.kimjondesigns.com Good Luck!!

LA Blossom is booked up for my date!
I met with Flowers by Michelle and really liked her, but I am a little hesitant because of the price. I want calla lilies for my bridesmaids though so I feel like no matter what my flowers will be expensive!

try putting a post on vendors helping brides, tell them your date, waht you are looking for a quote and they will FM You.
I also have heard burtons is great. But, with your wedding being This coming September, a lot of the vendors will be booked since its prime time.
Good luck tho!

Re: Out-of-State Planner
I am getting married in the Hamptons so a photographer from Southhampton may be a good choice, do you remember how much your photography package was and what you got for it?
