Re: Out of town accomodation question
Doesn't have to be too far in advance (say a few months) if your wedding is not on a holiday weekend or during some major sporting event (US Open, etc).
We did ours about 8 mos in advance.

Re: Out of town accomodation question
I'm more anal....I did mine last month for an Oct '05 wedding. I should say however, that it was convenient to do it then b/c FIL's were in the area for the day, and since most of the OOT guests are from their side, they wanted to get it done.

Re: Out of town accomodation question
We did ours ~1 year ahead just to make sure. We are a NJ/NY couple and a little under half the people will most likely be staying.

Re: Out of town accomodation question
We booked our already for next July. We figured because it is summer we would do it as soon as possible.

Re: Out of town accomodation question
In theorym the earlier the better, BUT keep an eye out for price drops and such. Occassionally, with a very expensive hotel, if there is a special price, even if you had booked a room, they will honor it. FI's friend got married and we stayed overnight at the Plaza and this is what happened -- we saw a lower price listed and they honored it.
