Re: out of town bridesmaids
WELL, if you order it here, she won't have to worry about transporting it up from Atlanta, which can be annoying.
But if you order it here, it makes alterations difficult... unless she can come up for a girl's weekend and work alterations into it at some point.
If there's no way she can come up for alteration before the wedding, then I'd have her order it down there, it's just gonna be kind of a pain to drag the dress up here on a plane without wrinkling it to crap.

usually they order the dresses together so the dresses material is dyed at the same time.

This is a good point as well.

Re: out of town bridesmaids
has anyone had the experience where the dress were not dyed at the same time and it looked way off? she came up to help me pick my dress, and will come for my bridal shower as well, so coming up for fittings wouldnt be feasable. i mean how off could it be? (wishful thinking????)

Re: out of town bridesmaids
my friend ordered my dress (the wedding was in Massachusetts) and shipped it to me via UPS, that way all the dress colors were the same (since we had heard that sometimes when you order BM dresses separately, the shades of color might be different had you ordered them together). I have one BM who lives in FL and I will most likely order her dress here and ship it to her to get altered.

Re: out of town bridesmaids
same problem here. Im doing black dresses so im hoping that the dye wont be as big of a deal. I think its best that she goes to a place near her that way she can have alterations done, but then again if I hold her dress hostage, shes forced to come visit me before the wedding haha.

This is what I was going to say.. I have 2 out of state BM's (one is my MOH) and they are ordering directly from the bridal store here and I will just ship them their dresses for alterations. They can just go to someone local.

Re: out of town bridesmaids
My friend had an OOT BM in Cali and what she did was have her friend get professionally measured and then she told her the measurements and my friend placed the order here.
Everything worked out fine but I know that my friend was freaking out that when her BM arrived that the dress wouldn't fit properly and they would have no time to alter it.
I think if it were for me, for my piece of mind, I'd have the friend get the dress in Atlanta, that way if any last minute alterations are needed they can be done before she comes to NY.

Re: out of town bridesmaids
The best thing to do is have everyone order the dress from the same place. OOT girls can get measured by a seamstress and call in their order and have it delivered to them. Then they can chose their own place for alterations and still get whatever discount on the bulk order. I have 2 OOT girls and I thought about using Davids Bridal since there are so many locations but I really don't like their stuff (I had a dress and shoes and alterations done w them and they charged way too much and the material was crap) so I'm just going to do it the way I said above. Cuz even we got their dresses I wouldn't recommend alterations there.

Re: out of town bridesmaids
One of my bms lives in California. She is calling the store in NY and giving them her measurements and then I am mailing it to her for her to get her alterations done in Cali.
I would have had her buy it in California but Lilette's is giving us a discounted price since I'm buying my gown from them too.

Re: out of town bridesmaids
I have a bridesmaid in Virginia and one in London. They will both most likely call in their measurements so I can have all of my dresses ordered from the same place and from the same dye lot. Once the dresses arrive, I will have to send them to them, so they can have their fittings done by them.

Re: out of town bridesmaids
I have BMs in Boston, PA, upstate and my sis/MOH lives in Canada. They are all getting measured and calling the store here to give them their measurements. That way they will all be from the same lot. Bridal reflections also nicely offered to ship them to my BMs so that they can get altered locally wherever they are and not have to wait til the last minute to come to NY to get altered.

Re: out of town bridesmaids
i would order them all together because if they are cut from different fabric (although the same color) they could be a slight variation in color..

Re: out of town bridesmaids
I have the same problem, except ALL of my girls live out of state. Different states too!
I'm having them send me their measurements, ordering through Paradise, then shipping them to the girls directly to get alterations done locally.

Re: out of town bridesmaids
i would probably just order it all from the same store and then ship it to your bridesmaid... just so there are no problems (and maybe the store will also give you some sort of additional discount for ordering more dresses through them --- never hurts to ask!) HTH!
