I have 3 bridesmaids - one is local but the other two live very far away.
I've heard it's not a good idea to buy the dresses at 3 different stores (even if they're the same style) because dye colors vary and the dresses might not match.
So how do they go about buying dresses?
OPTION 1: They will call a store which is local to me with their measurements and buy the dresses. I will then pick up the dresses and ship them out to them so they can get their alterations.
OPTION 2: All 3 bridesmaids will buy the dresses on the internet. The dresses will be shipped to their respective houses and they can get alterations there.
Option 2 is cheaper (dress is cheaper online and i don't need to pay for shipping) but option 1 seems like a safer route.
Any ideas?

Option 1: better to be safe than sorry
I actually have this issue but I am going to make the girls all get it from the same location because I was told that sometimes when they get them from dfferent places the color might be off....een if you tell them the exact color. To be safe we ordered from one store in NY and the dress will be shipped to them for altertions.

I'd go with Option 1.
I also have 3 out of town bridesmaids and I'm doing J Crew dresses. The OOT girls are giving me their sizes and preferences on what dress they want (all wearing same color) and I'm ordering. The good thing is that I can order them two or more different sizes and they are returnable.
I would probably see if the store you are buying from is located in their areas so they can at least try on a sample.

what about davids bridal? i did this b/c one of my BM's lives in florida. that way she can go to her local davids and they can look up in the computer the dresses i picked out

I went with David's Bridal...I had two girls in NY, one in CT and one in WI. We had absolutely no problems with everyone getting their's at a different store.
Plus it made it easier on the girls' for alterations.

Def option 1 unless you're doing Davids.
I've done it for two weddings where I was an out of town bridesmaid - no big deal (PS - I've also paid my own shipping)!

Option 1......OR, if any of them are coming into town, bring them to order and get measured when they're in town. That's what I'm doing. I have a BM that lives in Cali, but will be back east (NJ) over the holidays. She's going to come visit me while she's home and I'll take her to do her measurements then.
