Outdoor pictures in March?

Ok, I was thinking that if it was a nice day we could take pictures outisde on our wedding day. I was hoping to go to Planting Fields. I figured that March 20 wouldn't be too cold, but when my mom was here recently she kept saying 'it's going to be really cold' to the point that it got me upset. Is she just saying this because she lives in Florida and is used to the heat or will it really be too cold to do ANY pictures outside? I know it won't be really warm, but I at least figured it'd be in the 50's, which is warm enough to be outside. My mom just got me so freaked out about the weather... I hope she's just being a pessimistic Floridian. What do you think?

Re: Outdoor pictures in March?

Thanks bogie, I'm thinking we will tough it out too, but my mom just keeps saying... 'it's going to be winter' and 'it IS in March.' Everytime I tell her she is upsetting me when she says that she just says she is being realistic. It makes me feel as though she thinks we picked a bad time. :( We chose it because it will be 7 years to the day that we met. I don't really care how cold it is, it means something to us. But I would like to take pics outside, so I think I'm just going to go with it. I can't drive myself crazy thinking about what the weather might do...

Re: Outdoor pictures in March?

You wont be taking pictures for that long so i wouldnt worry about it. It will be fine. It is your day. People can be cold for a little while. They will be fine.

Re: Outdoor pictures in March?

It won't necessarily be really cold, but it certainly can be. Our wedding was March 27 (of this year) and we lucked out with a really nice warm day, but you can't really count snow out 100% until early-mid April.

It looks like the average historical high temp on March 20 is 50 and the average low is 32.

You can check out here for history (you can change the date to look at past years):
http://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/KFRG/2004/3/20/DailyHistory.html

None of this means that you can't take some pictures outside though. Just be prepared and make sure you have a jacket, shawl, or something else to keep you warm.

Re: Outdoor pictures in March?

Thanks everyone, you are really making me feel better about this.

I think I will go ahead and make the arrangements for the Planting Fields. Take my chances and see how the day goes.

I hope the girls don't expect me to buy them shawls... should I?

I'm sure they wouldn't be expecting that, but I also don't think you can ask people to stand outside for any length of time without some kind of jacket or something if it's in the 30s or 40s. You and your FH can decide what you want to do for yourselves, but I don't think it's right to impose something like that on anyone else. JMO. If you're serious about getting everyone outside for pics (even if it's cold out), I would just be sure to let them know beforehand so that they can bring some appropriate cover.

What we did was just hope that it would be nice enough for the two of us to get some outdoor shots, but assumed that any group pics would be inside.

Re: Outdoor pictures in March?

Thanks littlewilson. I didn't mean for my comment about buying them shawls to sound so rude, after I read your post I figured that it had come out wrong and me sounding selfish. I have already bought the girls a lot of things and I don't really know if I can afford to add shawls to the list. I was planning on telling them to bring a sweater or something if I don't end up doing shawls.

I booked Westbury gardens just in case Mother nature is a bad girl that day

I did have my girls order shawls to match their dresses

My brother in law got married on 3/22 last year, and they had a warm day. I wore a light jacket, but it was nice and sunny.

Re: Outdoor pictures in March?

Rude, no way! I didn't think that at all. I understand how buying shawls could be a ridiculous extra expenditure, and I think everything will be fine as long as you're not asking anyone to stand out shivering in the cold....could definitely put a little damper on the day for them. Here's to good luck with the weather on your day!

Re: Outdoor pictures in March?

Feb 28 great day. 60 degrees..It rained at night. We took about 10-15 pics outside at my aunt's house. The shoes got muddy because it rained the night before, but otherwise, it was ok.

Hey, it's your wedding... so you should do what you want-- besides, I'm sure your bridesmaids will understand. As long as they have a nice warm limo waiting for them... and some nice groomsmen to keep them warm!
