Re: Over 35+ brides ?

I was 35 when I got married last October. We had a traditional wedding with just over 100 people. It was both mine and my DH's first (and last marriages). Our ceremony and reception were both at our hall because we're an Interfaith couple, otherwise, it would have been in my church.

You should do whatever's comfortable for you! There are no rules!! My friend is 45 and having her 2nd wedding 10/19. She's having a big wedding all over again.

Good luck!!

Re: Over 35+ brides ?

I agree w/Kathi. You really can - and should - do whatever you want. I'm 35 & haven't been married before. My FH already had a big wedding his 1st time around. So I debated just having something small. But then I thought - I'm only gonna do this once - might as well have fun with it. Once we started planning, it became bigger (and more expensive) than either one of us originally wanted. But - I think when you get married in your 30's - a lot of your friends & cousins are already married - so that increases your guest list right away. Then - I'm inviting a lot more work friends than if I had gotten married years ago. I've been w/my company for 13 years - there are a lot of co-workers I really want to invite! I think we'll end up having close to or over 300 people! I look at it this way - We've worked hard for years. So - we'll splurge a little (or a lot!!) and not worry so much - and (hopefully) just really enjoy our day w/family & friends. Do whatever you feel is right for you!!!!!

Re: Over 35+ brides ?

Nyweb-I'm only 32(but I have a 15 year old son)so feel think of me as being older. I was never married, Fi is divorced. He had a big old cheesy wedding when he was 25 that he did not help plan at all.
I was a little unsure about having a large guset list in a hall with a formal gown at first. The decision for me was the fact that I'm an only child & I knew my parents always looked forward to it.
We are not getting married at a church, we're doing day instead of night, and I think it will be really elegant.
No matter how old you are, or whether or not it's your first, you should do what makes you happy!
Good luck!!!!

Re: Over 35+ brides ?

I am in my 30s too and just got married. We had a big wedding, as well. It was the first time around for us and have been together for a while and wanted it to be special. Like the other posts, do what you would like to do. It is your day!

Re: Over 35+ brides ?

I'll be 33 when I get married. The only thing I held off on was the huge puffy dress. Mine is A-line and really nice. Nothing too big. I felt that was for the younger brides. Other than that, it's your day and hopefully we'll all have to do it only once Live it up!!

Re: Over 35+ brides ?

I will be 41 when I get married in September. I am getting married at my hall. It is a first wedding for both me & FH. It will a semi-formal setting. I will be wearing a white dress & my 21 year old daughter will be one of my bridesmaids.

I agree that you should do whatever you want and feel comfortable withng!

Re: Over 35+ brides ?

I am 35 and had the wedding I always visualized last month. 150 guests, gown with a long train, 7 piece band, etc. My family and friends wanted whatever would make me happy.

You should have the wedding that will make you and your FH happy. It's YOUR day.

Re: Over 35+ brides ?

I was 45 when I was married in Sept 2001. It was my second marriage but my husband's first. I had a very small wedding the first time around (it cost us less than $100 for everything) and decided that I really wanted to do the whole big wedding thing. My husband was all for it (he didn't care since I did all the planning) and we had a great day. My son escorted me and gave me away, my daughter was my maid of honor and my granddaughter who was 5 at the time, was the flower girl. I wore a beautiful white wedding gown (which I did not do the first time) and even an elbow length veil. We had our wedding and reception at The Beach Club in Lake Ronkonkoma (a terrific smaller catering facility) and really felt like queen for a day. It was a great party and I would do it over again in a minute. Have fun planning and do what you want to do. You won't regret it.

Re: Over 35+ brides ?

It's nice to know I am not the only 'older' bride on this website ( I am 32). This is the first marriage for FH and I and we will be having a traditional wedding with approx 150 guests. I am wearing an ivory gown, strapless with train, veil, headpiece, the works. It really should not matter how old you are, you should have the wedding you always dreamed of.

Re: Over 35+ brides ?

I'm 43 and planning a Feb 03 wedding. It is the second for us both. We are only inviting close friends and family this time around. About 80 people. We are having the ceremony at the restaurant, as the catholic church doesn't like us anymore (divorced) Except for the smaller amount of guests, everything will be like a big wedding. I can't wait. (oh, and this time around, I get to make allllll the decisions, not my dad) I also get to pay for it.

Re: Over 35+ brides ?

I'll be 35 when we are married next month. We're pretty much having a traditional wedding-full mass followed by cocktails, dinner, dancing and fun!

Mom and Dad will both walk me down the aisle, but I will give myself away.

I chose a simpler wedding gown, the poufy princess-y look is beautiful but not for me. My Demetrios is an Aline, off the shoulder with a train. I'll wear a veil and blusher.

No garter toss, no bouquet toss-most of our friends are married so there wouldn't be enough singles to participate.

BTW, this is my 2nd, his 1st. We felt very strongly about not worrying about 'the rules' and doing what would make our day the wedding of our dreams. I'm glad to hear that your all doing the same!!

Happy planning, ladies!!

Re: Over 35+ brides ?

Wow I was 33 when I got married, and never even thought of myself as an 'older' bride - that is silly, girls!!! People are getting married later and later in life - it's becoming the norm, as opposed to the exception. In fact, I think that sometimes people think of those getting married in their early twenties as sometimes too young. I wouldn't worry, and I would advise you to go for everything that you want on your wedding day. Don't give your age a second thought! That's ridiculous!!!

Re: Over 35+ brides ?

I agree with LaurenDM. I'll be 35 when I get married next year and my sister who is 38 and is also getting married next year didn't consider age an issue. You should do whatever you feel is right for you.
