overeating?

overeating?

can an infant overeat?

i am still supplementing w formula after nursing, and though i feel my supply is starting to increase a bit, she still sux down an ounce or two. She gets her supplement after nursing when she shows 'hunger' - crying, shaking her head, chewing on her hands. Ends up about 3x a day

So can she overeat? Or is she really just chugging down bcause she;s so hungry?

They know when they are full. Since you are not force feeding her (impossible when they are only on liquids), she is fine.

I think that she is probably just hungry. She is 6 wks, right? If so, I believe this is one of the milestones for a rapid growth spurt.

So I am not growing a baby pig?!?! Thanks guys! I figured she couldnt' really overeat, but just wanted to make sure. This is supposed to be a growth spurt time, so maybe that is it. She seems so content after she gets the supplement. And sometimes she is just as content with just the booby feeding. So I guess I have to just trust her a little more!

It is hard to trust somebody who cries to exhibit a bunch of different things and can't tell me what she wants!

Re: overeating?

Interesting fact I learned at my BF class yesterday.

A baby stomach is only the size of a walnut or the size of a small Reeses Cup (whichever you prefer to think of )

So they may be full way before us mommies think!

Youre doing great Jenny
