I am having a rough day. I understand that most of the work for the wedding will be put on my shoulders. I am just feeling really overwhelmed. I feel bad asking my MOH (my younger sister) to be helping so much. My fiance has been helpful but can seemed so annoyed by all the wedding stuff. How is everyone dealing with the long list that they have before them? Any ideas on how to feel less overwhelmed?

Re: Overwhelmed
Take it one step at a time. I've been ok so far with the planning, nothing has been stressing me too much. I do one vendor at a time, then move on.

Re: Overwhelmed
i know it can def be a lot sometimes, just try to tackle one vendor at a time and not spread yourself so thin
especially being on liw when you hear of everyone booking everything and buying everything you start thinking your so far behind but were really all on crack lol and are on speed when it comes to planning a wedding and booking lol

once all your vendors are booked its smooth sailing till the month before lol

Re: Overwhelmed
Are you guys going to the vendors alone or do you bring your FH and/or bridesmaids? I am worried to go alone and always second guess myself. I feel like these decisions are so important and cost so much money. Its just hard to get people to come with me. Is anyone having this experience?

Re: Overwhelmed
A wedding coordinator suggested to me to pick 1 task to do a month and that can take away some of the stress. But this will only work if you have all your major vendors booked already.
I would suggest to do wedding planning one weekend and then the next try to do something for yourself then go back the next weekend and do some more planning.
And don't feel bad for asking your MOH to help so much, I'm sure she is more than willing to contribute. And when you ask her to do something, just ask her if she has the time to do it, so she doesn't get to overwhelmed also.
FH does come with me to all the vendors, (except for the gown of course). It is hard to get people to come with you, but luckily one of my MOH's always makes time for me when I need her.

FH came with me to the vendor appointments. The only one he won't come to is florist, which is fine with me.

Re: Overwhelmed
When I think about everything their is to do I definitely feel overwhelmed...esp since at this point FH is in Ohio and cannot help at all. its a little easier to take when I just think about my next moves...which are to book an RH and then book my DJ. After that I'm moving on to photo/video and flowers. Just thinking about that and nothing else helps a lot.

Re: Overwhelmed
Take it one thing at a time. You have an entire year to planning. Do a little at a time and so that as it gets closer to your day, you are not bombarded with things to do. I know what you are going through. It doesnt help seeing other brides on the forum have everything booked a year in advance (no offense to anyone). I too feel overwhelmed at times, but that is when you have to relax and realize that there are some other things a little more important then deciding on wedding things. There are so many people in much worse situations.

Re: Overwhelmed
I was my older sister's MOH when I was 19. I absolutely loved to help plan and went along to some of the vendors with my mom instead of my sister who was stressed out, so see if your sister would want to help!

Re: Overwhelmed
The hardest part is choosing the venue - which i see you already have. I am trying to plan the Engagement party, and find a photographer and band right now (and do 100 other things NWR)
My FH really cares about the band, so i am definately making him do that one with me. He is not as picky about the E-party so I am doing that one with my mom and his mom. I was able to pick out the engagement invitations and STDs and thank you cards without FH. Registering we will do together initally and I can add stuff online on my own.
I think the key is to include your FH where you really need him, and not include where its not necessary. That way when you do ask him, he will not feel like all he is doing is planning the wedding. It also helps if I do some of the work up front, gathering a list of potential vendors, asking for opinions, and that way I have crossed off the bad ones and he doesnt have to deal with it.
i get overwhelmed - so I definately know the feeling. If you give yourself [realistic] goals you will be OK.

Re: Overwhelmed
Its all baby steps. One at a time...and what I do to keep FH interested, I screen vendors and give him my top choices and make sure his schedule is available to meet them. I try to make it easier for him, as per his request. I actually have a lot of fun with it. But...there are a lot of great vendors... on this site and off. So unless you have your heart set on one, don't stress it.

Re: Overwhelmed
Don't worry about it! Like one person said - everyone on LIW is on hyper mode and getting things done a lot earlier than the average bride would. I think this is because we are all looking at similar vendors.
I would do one vendor at a time. Start with one and put a 2 week or 4 week time limit on it if you want so that you have a deadline for yourself.
Also, once all major vendors are booked - there really is not much left to do until a few months before the wedding.
Right now the only wedding things im doing is working on the guest-list and having a makeup-hair trial.
Also, Im doing this without FH. He helps when he can and when he wants but I usually go to my mother who is more excited than I am. Find someone who is interested - even if they arent a MOH or BM if you dont trust yourself going alone to vendors. Choose a diff person each time. :)
GOOD LUCK and BREATH

Re: Overwhelmed
i would just go slow-that's what im doing lol
and fh doesnt come with me really--
he came to the 8 rh's i had on my list, because that was the most important thing to him
i saw 4 photographers on my own, and then he finally came with me to the one that i decided on for a 2nd meeting and to sign the contract
so far ive seen 5 florists, and he hasn't come to any of the appointments--hell prob come to the one i like the most just to confirm the decision or decide against it if he has a problem with it
but honestly i have ocd so i really dont mind going on my own
but it will be ok!!

Re: Overwhelmed
FH came with me to all the vendors that he could. I went to a few during the day so my mom came with me instead.
I feel like the 2010 girls, at least compared to other years, seem to be booking things left and right and that alone might feel a little overwhelming. Like you HAVE to get some things done now. Right now... all i would would worry about is RH, DJ, photo/video. That's it. You have plenty of time for everything else.
Perhaps spreading the vendors out a little will help FH and make him more willing to go. My FH said ok to 2 halls the 1st weekend after the new year. We ended up going to 8 that weekend and he was flipping out lol. (not really but i could tell he wasn't a happy camper).
