OK -- I really do not think I have any signs of ovulation. I read the book TCOYF... and I dont have any of the signs -- therefore I do not know when the heck I am fertile. I have long cycles-- they range from 38-48 days...Does anyone know if an ovulation kit would work for me ? Or a fertility monitor?

Re: Ovulation help--??
I would recommend trying an ovulation predictor kit (OPK). If you know, on average, how long your cycle is an OPK can be very helpful it pinpointing your peak fertility time. Good Luck and have fun with the BD!

Re: Ovulation help--??
Question: Which is a better indicator of actual ovulation -- ovulation predictor kits or basal body temperature?
Answer: Well, they function somewhat differently. An ovulation predictor kit will turn color the day before you ovulate based on a surge in your luteinizing hormone (LH), which is what causes you to ovulate 24 hours later. So ovulation predictor kits can tell you when you're going to ovulate (usually the day after the predictor kit turns color).
A basal body temperature / cervical mucus chart (see our example chart — and fill in your own) reflects your progesterone level, which is close to zero before you ovulate and rises dramatically after ovulation. So a basal body temperature (BBT) chart can tell you only when you have already ovulated, not when you're about to, because your temperature goes up after you ovulate.
A BBT chart tells you something about when you ovulated in a particular month, but it can't tell you the exact moment to have sex (or uterine insemination) that same month. You have to chart your BBT for a few months and spot a pattern in your cycle before you can use it to predict when you're most fertile. An ovulation predictor kit, however, can give you advanced warning of ovulation the first month you use it. The main drawback to the kits is that they're expensive, running between $20 and $50 per cycle.
Also keep in mind that sometimes neither will work: Both ovulation predictor kits and basal body temperature / cervical mucus charts can be inaccurate in some people.
I used First Response. It also comes with a free pregnancy kit.

Re: Ovulation help--??
I second the ClearBlue fertility monitor. I have a very long, irregular cycles. This definitely helped me pinpoint when I was most fertile. It is expensive but it was worth it to me just to know things were working.

Re: Ovulation help--??
My friend who is TTCing too just recommended The Donna Saliva Test to me, she went to see her dr and he recommended it to her.
Its about $50 and you can buy it at a drugstore.
it uses your saliva to determine when you are ovulating.
and you can use it over and over again, unlike those urine sticks which can help up costing a fortune in the end.
I am not sure how long it lasts, she told me up to 1 year, but on the websites I looked it said it last a lifetime, so who knows
I posted a new topic on this, to see if anyone else has used it good luck kimberly
