Ovulation Predictors?

Ovulation Predictors?

Has anyone used them??

DH and I have failed for the third month so he wants me to get an OP kit.

What are the best ones?

I used them to start prediciting when I would ovulate. They worked for me. I believe I used the Clear Blue Easy brand. Sorry, I really can't remember. I think most of them out there are fine to use, but then again they have different results for different people.
Good Luck... And NEVER say you failed... This is a process, sometimes it takes a very long time, sometimes it doesn't. You must be patient, that was a lesson for me.

Good Luck.

We used them - bought the ones at Costco, I forget the brand. The tricky thing about them is you need to have an idea of when you ovulate approximately so you can test around the correct days. Have you tried temperature charting at all? It is a great compliment to the OPKs. Check out the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility or the website fertilityfriend.com for more info on temp charting.

Any of the OPK work pretty well. It sometimes takes the first month to get the hang of it and know approx when you ovulate so that you don't use up all of the sticks too early. There are instructions on when to start using them in the kits.

I also use Clear Blue Easy Fertility Monitor and temp and chart.

I know when I ovulate -- but that still hasn't helped us achieve pg in 15 months but knowing when you ovulate is a good start.

My gyn told me to buy a pack this week to see if I know when I ovulate and using them has caused me confusion, all the lines look the same to me everyday I bought the clearblue easy

Maybe you can explain it to me, the surge line and the reference line is very similar all the days to me, only on the first day was the line very bright. I am so confused reading it.

Re: Ovulation Predictors?

The monitor tells you everything. There is the stick you use, don't want to get to graffic, and you put it into the machine and it will let you know when you are approaching ovulation. example...if you are getting close there will be 2 bars on the screen, but when you are within 12-36 hours, there will be 3 lines, the top one will have an egg in it, that means lots of 'together' time, if you know what i mean. i'll see if i can get more info for you...

I did not purchase the digital one, I purchased the 7 days pk. I read some review on it and many people shared my sentiment, about confusion in the readings.

Thanks for responding ladies.

Re: Ovulation Predictors?

Isn't the Fertility monitor's very expensive? I heard they were about $200. I think I will try the OP kits first. See if I have any luck.

I use to chart my temp when I was trying with my first baby. I took me 7 months and I was completely obsessed. I am trying not to let myself get to that point again. I don't understand why I seem to take so long to conceive becuase I am textbook 28 day cycles. I'm pretty sure I ovulate on day 13 or 14, but using the OP kits might help pinpoint the day.

Anyway, thanks ladies!!!

Re: Ovulation Predictors?

I use Answer Ovulation kits. They are pretty easy to read. You have the line that is always there (I think it is called the result line?) and that is always dark purple. Then you have the test line (the line that will appear when you are ovulating). When I am ovulating the lines are the same dark purple color, then I know that I will ovulate within the next 24-48 hours. If the test line is not as dark as the result line, then you are not ovulating.

Hope this helps

Re: Ovulation Predictors?

I agree with Shamma that the test sticks were very confusing, at least to me. The lines always looked the same.

The Fertility monitor posted above is about $180-$200. I bought one as well, and never got a chance to use it because I found out I was pregnant a few days later. Best $200 I ever spent!

BTW, I ovulated on day 35 of my cycle when I got pregnant, so no test sticks would have told me that!

Re: Ovulation Predictors?

Wow, you ovulated on day 35? Did you know that from a fertility monitor?

So if you ovulated on day 35 how long are your cycles? 49 days? Was this typical for you?
chmlengr Posted:

Re: Ovulation Predictors?

If you search some of my old posts, I did not have typical cycles. I went almost a year without ovulating (this was known because I wasn't getting my AF, yet bloodwork showed my hormone levels were where they should have been through out my cycle). I got my AF only by taking a Rx of Provera to induce it, and then going from there.

To answer your question, I did not use an OPK's to know this. But based on when I conceived and when my last AF was, it would appear I ovulated on day 35!!

Re: Ovulation Predictors?

Trish, all my hormones are good, I guess my problem is, is knowing if my cycles are all the same, b/c sometime I have 35 to 42 days difference, so far this year it has been good tho' a day or 2 difference, so she wanted me to check, I don't think the 7 day stick will work for me to know the time period.

Trish you are right, reading the darn lines is confusing

Re: Ovulation Predictors?

Shamma:
I am the same way, I get AF anywhere between 35-40 days. What I do to guesstimate when I might ovulate is I go on www.obfocus.com and look at the ovulation calculator. I plug in a 35 day cycle. So for example, this month, I should ovulate around 2/15. What I will do is start testing around 2/12 and keep testing until I ovulate. 2 months ago I went through 2 kits (I use Answer and there are 5 sticks in each kit). Hope this helps

I did that, and the time frame said I should have ovulated between 2/9 and 2/14, but from the KITS when I tested on the 5th that was the day I got the darkest line and today when I used a stick it was light.

My question is, during the period of ovulation, will the stick always change color, but there is only one time that the color will be the darkest and that is the optimal time of ovulation???
