Pacifiers...are you for/against?

I know babies like to suck and it soothes them but from the time Emma left the hospital she has never had a pacifier. She had one in the hospital but she could never keep it in her mouth so it was a waste. Now when she finds one kicking around the house she will put it in her mouth and chew on it, she calls it her chewy.

I hope that I can get away with not using them. I am not a fan, but I don't want to say never because I just don't know. I also don't like thumb sucking if it had to be one or the other, I would go with the Pacifier.
Re: Pacifiers...are you for/against?
I was 100% anti-pacifer before Jack was born. Then after a couple of nights of much fussiness I discovered that all he wanted to do was suck on something to soothe himself. I figured this out by just randomly giving him my finger to suck on and he almost sucked my finger off! So I went out and bought the nuk pacifers and he loves them. I was very worrried about him getting addicted because I can't stand seeing toddlers with a pacifier in their mouth, but luckily he sucks until he feels content and then spits it out. Plus, I won't give it to him in bed to avoid future problems.

My neighbors baby is 1, and I don't even know what her face looks like without a pacifier stuck in her mouth - so that totally turned me off to them. Angela learned very early to suck on her hand, she occ. sucks on her thumb, but mostly the side of her hand - when she needs to suck/be comforted. It works awesome bc there is no having to get up in the middle of the night, when she wakes up she sucks on her hand and falls back asleep. Hopefully it will stay that way. but, like 100 times people have looked at me cross eyed and made me feel like a horrible mother bc I don't give her one!

Nick uses his pacifier all of the time - it soothes him and calms him when he is fussy and/or feels the need to suck. He sometimes falls asleep with it in his mouth, but spits it out after about 10 minutes - he does not wake up wanting it. It is mostly when he is awake that he uses it. I would rather him suck on the pacifier than suck on his thumb, so No, I don't have a problem at all with his using it.

My goddaughter loves it, she's 2
Re: Pacifiers...are you for/against?
I am against them. My older guy never liked them anyway. My younger guy didnt like them either but now at 4 he is attached to his thumb. Which has me a little upset. He uses his thumb mostly when he is tired. That is how U can tell when its time for him to lie down.

Kiera uses one every now and then. She loves to suck and she found her thumb when she was about 2 weeks old. I'd rather give her the pacifier then have her suck on her thumb. Plus she only uses it a little bit. She doesn't use it all the time to fall asleep, more of that sometimes she needs a little extra sucking to calm down.
