Re: PACKING

no, I think they were like 6 bucks each or something.. we got about 10-12 of those and the big long ones.. What's even better is that you can resuse them.. We plan on using it to organize our storage in our attic..

Re: PACKING

Mark all the boxes clearly as to what room they belong to and what is in the box. It makes it so much easier to unpack.

Re: PACKING

We did the same thing as Marcella. I believe the containers were the cheapest at Walmart. You'll find a use for them afterward, and if you don't then pass them on to someone else who is moving.

Re: PACKING

I've moved 10 times so far so I'm becoming an expert at moving ...if you're going to be visiting the house before you actually move in (to clean, paint etc.) always bring a box with you...it helps A LOT to have your bathroom and kitchen set up before hand, because you don't want to be searching through boxes for toilet paper or silverware the day you move in.

Also, when I move my clothes, I leave them on hangers and put garbage bags over them (like a garment bag - poke a hole through the top for the hanger and tie a knot in the bottom to close the bag) so I can take them from one closet and just hang them immediately in the new place so they're out of the way.

Good luck!

Re: PACKING

great tips from everyone...

heres another...pack books in small boxes...even if you have movers...you will still need to move the boxes around...

also we packed up all of our klitchen except for 2 of everything...then on moving day I wrapped them in towels and put them in our laundry baskets...that was I had what i needed right away too

labelling is a must...you may think you will remember...but you won't!!

good luck...and start as early as possible!!

Re: PACKING

and don't wrap thinngs in newspaper! The print gets everywhere. Use a magazine on the actual item first then you can use newspaper if you want. It keeps the print from getting on the items. We are living amongst boxes now and it is so annoying!!! I do a little each night.

Re: PACKING

definitely labe!
i like to pack the boxes according to the room things are going to go into.....then when you unpack you can just put the box in the correct room and go from there.....
oh, and as you're packing, sort out what you really really need and want and what needs to be thrown away! or sold on ebay!!!
good luck!

Re: PACKING

U-haul has boxes made for dishes and for glasses, makes packing the dinnerware easier. I use them to store my MIL's dishes now, since I don't have room for everything in the cupboards.

I'm very detailed about labeling everything to the point that I number boxes and list everything in the box. It's come in so handy when I'm looking for something - don't have to tear apart a dozen boxes.

Make sure you have a flashlight and batteries handy. We lost power in our neighborhood just a few days after moving in, and we were sure glad to have them handy.

When you get to the house, make your bed first (make sure you know where sheets and pillows are packed). You'll be really glad you don't have to do that at the end of a long day when you're exhausted and want to fall over!
