Packing up my life

Packing up my life

I am slowly trying to get rid of things and pack up stuff for my big move into our apartment (FH lives there already and I stay on the weekends) Did anyone else feel overwhelmed/sad when they did this? I feel wierd trying to stick my entire life into boxes and I have to part with some stuff.

I feel your pain! FH and I are moving out of this 1 bedroom apt. sometime after the wedding. I've lived here for more than 5 years, he moved in Jan 2004. I have had so many good memories here. I met FH while living here, got engaged here and I'm getting married while living here! I am so sad at the thought of not being here much longer

But we are bursting at the seams and need a bigger place. It will be very hard to move

Re: Packing up my life

OMG do I feel your pain!! We closed on our house a few weeks ago, and I'm moving in Saturday (my lease is up next week on my apartment), I've been so overwhelemed with this move and the wedding I just don't know what to do with myself.

I've been moving what I can to the house every couple of days, but yet when I look around my apartment, I can't even see the progress I've made. I have no idea how I'm going to be ready for the truck Saturday morning!!!

I told FH we are NEVER moving from our house! And once we're done with my place, we have his condo to pack up (although we have a few months to do that). He's been living there 14 years and is a total hoarder, never throws anything out!

When I moved out of my parents house, I couldn't pack fast enough. But I do remember that first night sleeping in the new bed.... it definitely felt weird and made me a little sad for sentimental purposes..

OMG...I am in the same boat as you and thought I was the only one. My FH also has his own apartment which I am moving into after the wedding (I currently live home w/ my parents & sister but stay at FH's apt on the weekends). It is going to be the hardest thing I have EVER done...I never lived with anyone else besides them and my sister so trust me, you are definitely not alone.

Are you moving far from your family?

It was a little overwhelming for me. And sad. It hit me the night b/f the wedding...I was packing for the honeymoon and getting ready to bring my suitcase to our house (he was staying there and I was still at home)...It hit me...I am never going to sleep at my house, in my room, again!! Sad but....Only new and exciting things come from it!!!

I am definitely feeling the same way We bought a townhouse in January and FH has been living there alone and I stay on the weekends. I am not ready to move out of my house. I have lived here 25 years and have had such fun times here. I started to pack up some things a few weeks ago and had a complete breakdown. The thought of moving out is making me sad. I am excited to start our new life together but leaving my family will be hard. The other day at work I saw an ad for a christmas tree and realized I won't be home Christmas morning and started to cry. You are not alone

Re: Packing up my life

OMG -- you are talking about my life. I seriously had a panic attack today about everything I have to do.

FH felt strongly about us waiting until after the wedding to move in together, but we are moving into my apartment. I need to throw away half my stuff for him to fit in here (which should happen regardless b/c I've got a ton of crap I don't need). I really wanted to paint and have everything organized before the wedding (we have 6 weeks) but between wedding plans and the beginning of the semester (FH and I are both teachers) things are just a mess and I have no hope of getting it all fixed before the wedding.

Basically we decided to do what needs to be done (ie wedding planning and teaching prep), and leave the painting and cleaning until after the Big Day.

I may still be living in the mess, but crossing something off the immediate To Do List (even if its really just delaying the inevitable) saved me.

You know how they say when you go on a trip you should take half as much clothes and twice as much $$ -- I think its sort of the same for weddings. Cut your to do list in half and just add $$ to the most important things.

My advice: prioritize your list and then see what you can cut or put off til after the wedding!

YES! YES! YES! I have also been slowly moving things into FH's apartment and it has been much harder than I thought that it was going to be. I get teary everytime I pack stuff up. VERY happy to hear that other girls are going through this as well.

It has nothing to do with me not wanting to live with FH, I can't wait to start my life with him, but it is still really sad for me for some reason.

Re: Packing up my life

this was sooooo hard for me, I've started to move my things into our new house, but its been so emotional for me. I even began unpacking some of my things, and they seem so out of place outside of my bedroom. It was so difficult for me that I even asked my FH if we could just move into my bedroom!!! he said no! LOL

Re: Packing up my life

Yes! I moved out of the apartment I lived in for SIX years (longest place since my parents' house) and moved into DH's/now our house. I cried so hard when we finished the final cleaning and had to leave. So many memories at that place, it was where we got engaged too!

But establishing our home together has been wonderful and the sadness didn't last too too long after the packing and departure.

Re: Packing up my life

Tonight is my last night sleeping in my apartment that I've been in for the past 6 years. It's a little bittersweet, I mean, I'm sooooooooo excited to live in the house full time and to set up the house and decorate and such. But I've lived where I've lived for so long, and it's no longer 'my own' now I SHARE a place to live with someone. Don't get me wrong, I can't wait to start my life with FH. It just feels strange.
