Painting furniture

FH and I got a bookcase from Ikea that I luuuuuuurve! This is a picture, but ours is black-brown.



He's got 2 other bookcases that are blonde but he wants to paint them... the problem is they are finished. Can we paint them? How? What colors do you ladies suggest? Want to do it for us? (FYI... the walls are white and the rug will be neutral)

I've painted over a finish before and it worked OK--sometimes takes a couple coats if the finish bleeds through. You could also sand off the finish before painting, which might make the paint job more even. How about painting on a cherry-wood stain? That might match the Ikea one more closely...And no, I won't do it, unless many, many truffles are offered

truffles could be arranged!

maybe we'll try sanding... cuz I'm lazy and don't want to have to paint much! What about a bold color like purple? I need a piece of purple furniture in my life.

How much was this book case? I love it! Ikea?

Purple=prosperity in feng shui (sp?)

First sand then prime then paint whatever color you want.
even bannana yellow (monkey)

SandraLynn... it is indeed Ikea! It's 58' square and it was $99. There's a bigger one that's 72' square and $149 (i think).

I love it so much I want to live in it.

Princess... think of good purples...something rich and bold!! and then get your @ss in gear... cuz you're painting it!
