did anybody use any special painting techniques? was it hard to do and did it take forever? i'm wondering if we should even consider it

Re: painting techniques
I did the 'Suede' look from Ralph Lauren in my bedroom. It was pretty easy to do.
I used a regular paint (semigloss) in the same color as the Suede paint I was using (I had white walls and wanted to make sure they wouldn't peek through with the techinique). I rolled that on in one coat.
Then to Suede paint I took a BIG brush and made 'X' movements with the paintbrush until the wall was covered. I did two coats of that (my arm was killing me!) ... but it was EASY AS PIE!

Re: painting techniques
I used the ragging technique in half bathroom. They had a class at Home Depot and I watched fo a bit but it's really easy.
I painted my kitcehn a gold/yellow color with an X technique. I just did the same thing as someone else mentioned, just took a big brush and made X's, and it looks GREAT. It looks like I used 2 different colors.

Re: painting techniques
The first one I tried was sponging. I did one wall in my gest bedroom - simple!!!!!
I just did suede in my bedroom and again simple. The only thing the first caot of RL Suede looks awful - we almost abandoned ship...but we went one and after the second coat - perfect and we love it. A girl on this site gave me a great tip - roll on first coat like directed - then have one person start rollinjg the second caot and the other follow with a paint brush and do the X's - rather than just X' on the paint - you X'off the paint - I have a faily big bedroom - and it went pretty quick.
All my bathrooms are also either ragged or marble effect but the previous owner did it and we kept it.
Only big downside to some techniques that I have seen - is you can't easily touch up. For example previous owner took down things off the walls and it was difficult to patch up and make look nice - so we covered with our own art or shelves.
