Pam got me thinking....

Original post by GR2010

I don't think my parents and FILs are going to meet until the day of the rehearsal dinner. FILs refuse to come visit NY, my parents even offered to go to PIttsburgh to meet them but FILs couldn't come up with a weekend that was good for them (REALLY??) I would be SHOCKED if his mother made the effort to come for my shower...

Is this weird that they probably won't meet until the day before the wedding? Have all of your parents and FILs met?

My FIL's won't meet my parents until the wedding due to the fact that they live in Buenos Aires.
That said, I'm sorry that your FIL's are giving you issues, that is really suc*y of them. Hang in there!

Re: Pam got me thinking....

My family and FH family has met a lonnnnng time ago....we have been dating for 6 years and I think 3 years into it, they started coming over for holidays. FH family came from Italy this summer and we held a huge BBQ for them with my entire family.

I don't think its weird if they don't meet if their schedules don't permit...the fact that your FIL can't come up with ONE weekend is pretty rude though...if people are willing to come all the way to meet you, I am POSITIVE they can find a day or two where they are free!

similar situation here, only that my parents are in Israel. my FH hasnt met my parents even, forget FMIL
they will all meet 1-2 weeks before the wedding, when my parent will fly in for the wedding.
my FH met all of my extended family here, we try to see them as often as possible

sad that u all are in the same country and they are still being so problematic

Re: Pam got me thinking....

My situation is a very strange one so its not very relatable however....
my mom has only 'met' if you want to call it that Fh's mom once and it was for literally 2 seconds. She doesnt speak any english and on top of that its extremely hard to live her house because FHs sister is parapalegic. Since she doesnt speak a word of english, it would be basically useless for my mom to go there. My fater, to be things into perspective didnt meet FH until the day I told him that we were engaged!! I know weird right, and thats partially my fault but it wasnt as weird as one would think; my parents are divorced and i only see my father like once or month and were not that close. Anyway, my father has never ever met my FHs mom and he wont until the wedding day . that ones a little weird but hey, thats my life kids. SORRY for the long story!

So, Gina, with the situation that you described, although your parents might find it odd, you know why it is the way it is and that fh's parents are being a bit difficult. So, i dont think its a big deal at all. If anyone should feel uncomfortable, its you fils because they wouldnt even put any effort into having your parents visit them, when they offered.

So sorry!! That's sh itty that they can't even set aside one night for dinner

Our e-party is Saturday so my parents wanted to come down a few days early to meet them before the party so there's not 80 other people around lol...and so my mom could help his mom with setting up. (All went well incase you didn't read my update )

I hope everything works out for you!!!

I don't think it's that weird. I was hoping that would be the case for me, but oh well!

My parents met FH's parents in passing, nothing official, within the 9 years we've been together.

After we got engaged, my Mom thought it would be nice to have them over the house for coffee and cookies. Ugh! I was sooooo dreading it. My parents are pretty modern and very liberal and FH's are from Greece and pretty traditional. It was an awkward meeting, but it went well nonetheless.
Am I glad that happened? Ehhh I probably still would have preferred them meeting at the RD!

Re: Pam got me thinking....

Our parents have met, though FH's live in Florida. I think nowadays its really common that parents don't meet till the wedding, given the lives people lead as opposed to 20 years ago
