Parent Albums

Parent Albums

I see a lot of you have mentioned not getting parent albums from your photog, but rather, you are planning on making them on your own from one of those photo websites...a few questions bc I've never made an album using one these sites.

which site are you planning on using?

what is the paper like in the album? Is it thick, like a nice album or more like a nice coffee table/photo book with thin paper that is bendable?

how much money do you estimate you are saving by doing this on your own?

is there an obvious difference in quality between the DIY albums and the photog albums?

We traded engagement pics for two parents album. We didn't see a need for engagement pics but wanted our parents to have an album.

Re: Parent Albums

I made an album for my mom and grandfather from ritzpix.com and am in the midst of making one for the ILs on there.

The albums I'm making are magazine-style -- I have a bunch of the pages in an album on here if you want to see. The paper is magazine-type paper for the albums I chose, meaning they are stronger than regular photo paper, but are thin. Ritz / Wolf camera also does premium albums that are the hard stock paper just like the photographers make, but those get shipped out to get printed and I'm a one-hour type girl.

The albums I've made so far were $50 each (I made two). The premium ones I believe are $64 but have to be made in the store not online.

Our photographer charges $400 for a parent album. I'd say that's considerable savings. Additionally, our families didn't want the hard stock, enormous albums that the B&G gets and are excited about the more convenient size and shaped albums I'm making.

We got our album from the photographer and it's wonderful, but I'm really glad we got all our photos on DVD and the rights to them so I could make my own albums for family. Especially since everyone has a different group of people they want to see in the albums. A single type of parent album would not have worked for my parents who don't like each other at all (they've been divorced 18 years).

thank you so so much! I thought I'd like the hard cardstock for our parents as well, but maybe they'd like the magazine style...hmmm something to ask them! Thanks for all the info, this really helped!
Also, your album came out really great! I love it and I'm sure your mom does too!
