What is the purpose of these? Is it such a big deal if we don't do them? My fiance is not doing one with his mother and I may do one with my Dad. Is there anything else we can do?

Hi. My fiance has rented dozens of tuxedos (no exaggeration either- he has 5 sisters and has been in 5 friends weddings and proms) from Foresto Tuxedo. They are in Mineola on Willis Avenue between Jericho Tpke and Hillside Ave. Give them a try!!

For a DJ we went with Spin Around Sound. www.spinaroundsound.com

I think Dad/Daughter and Mother/Son songs are becoming a tradition as a way to honor your parent. However, as any tradition, it's definitely not a requirement. If you want to have a dance with Dad, and he doesn't want one with Mom...then that's perfectly fine. If you skip it entirely, it's no big deal. Do what you want...or, don't do what you don't want to do :-)

I'm no expert...it's just what I thought. Personally, we are having the two dances after the cake cutting. My fiance wanted to have the dance with his mother, so I thought it'd be "complete" with the daughter/dad dance, too. If he didn't want to, then we would've skipped them both. It's no big deal...I don't think the dance is THAT big of a deal...I mean, your parents are already honored at other points through the day...this is just one more opportunity.

Oh no! I only suggested a song for just the parents as an alternative...just an idea.

I am having a similar issue - my fiance's mom passed away when he was a teenager, so we would actually prefer to skip that particular tradition...but I think it is really important to my Dad that he get a dance with me, so I think we are just going to have that and that is it. His dad is remarried and the relationship between his new wife and my fiance is strained, so the dual-parent dance thing also is a bit uncomfortable. I think that is aok to just have one parent--child dance. My bet is that you or he will certainly be busy enough with all your guests to not mind a moment when the attention isn't totally focused upon you. I think the poem idea is a great one though if you feel you would like a chance to have a "special moment" with your dad.

Hi, Pauline... Our reception will be this outdoors this summer at Gristina Vineyards in Cutchogue, on the North Fork. Outdoor weddings can be a bit of a pain to plan - have to get a tent guy, caterer, etc. - but the vineyard is beautiful and the general manager, John, has been nothing but helpful.

Best of luck!

Concetta's poem idea is GREAT!!! After you read it over the microphone, perhaps you can frame a copy of it so that it becomes a keepsake for Dad.
