Parent present: dinner and a show (review)

Parent present: dinner and a show (review)

My parents paid for half of our wedding and in addition to other things we did for them here or there, we wanted to send them to a show and dinner.

We got tickets to Stomp (off-broadway) at the Orpheum theatre. My parents have typically seen musicals so we thought this might be a nice change of pace since it's a performance show, no plot, no words even.

Or, it could have been a disaster!

I just got off the phone with both of my parents and they LOVED it. These are picky people. My Dad is also hard-of-hearing and said he had no problem since there were no lines!

They thanked us for getting seats in the 8th row and not the first 5. Why? Because the people in front get sprayed with water and all sorts of stuff! Something to keep in mind!

There is just no way to describe what the show is about and convey how good it was, they said. But they thoroughly enjoyed it.

We then got them a gift certificate to a restaurant named Hearth which was in walking distance from the show. Only problem was that the show ended at 4pm and Hearth opens at 6. (my parents are retired so they can do matinees which avoids traveling during rush hours)

But they had enough to keep them busy, strolling through the neighborhood, my Dad's old school, etc.

They said the food was, and I quote, 'out of this world'. They went out of their comfort zone with some of the things they chose because the menu is really interesting. They have the normal poultry/fish/meat but all of it is prepared in a non-traditional way.

They raved, loved it right down to dessert.

So we scored a hit with this present, I thought we would share for those of you looking at something for the 'rents. We got them a gift cert for $125. but with a glass of wine, appetizer, entrees, dessert and tip, they went over, but not by much. Their menu is on their website so you can see just what you're dealing with.

We ordered the tickets from Broadway.com and they were about $80.00 each.

Just wanted to share!
