Parents gift?

Parents gift?

I am getting married this July. I have yet to get my parents their 'Thank You' gift. They will both be retired, age 60, by September. They are active. What have you all given your parents?

if they're active, maybe something that goes with a hobby they have? like something golf related if they're into golf. and do the parents' poem too

Re: Parents gift?

my mother had been eyeing a big TV for a long time...but woudn't buy one for herself...since they paid for a large chunk of the wedding...we bought it for them...

I also got my mother a picture frame and my dad a box of Cuban cigars

Our parent gifts are their albums, a frame to put our picture in, hankies and the parent poems that sonia mentioned. We put the poem on cardstock, scanned a baby picture with our parents on vellum and attached it with a satin bow.
Here is the mothers hankie

Re: Parents gift?

Here are the poems I am using. Here is the poem for my parents:

For my parents:
Mom & Dad –

Coming soon is the day, I've dreamed of all my life.
I will then be marrying, becoming XXXX’s wife.
I wanted to tell you how special, you two are to me.
You have made me what I am, and am ready to be.

That night I will sleep, with dreams of bygone days,
My loving, carefree childhood, and of my childish ways.
Then I will awake, with dreams of things to come,
What my life will be, and who I will become.

With the morning I will have, emotions flowing free,
I just wanted you to know, I'll need you there with me
Your strength and love will guide me, as I become the bride,
As I start this precious journey, I need you by my side.

As I stand with Dad, at the beginning of the aisle
Please look at me dear Mom; I'll need to see your smile.
Your smile and Dad's arm will help to steady me,
As I take this blessed step, for God and all to see.

I'll always be your daughter, and your love I'll always need,
Though we are starting a new chapter, planting a new seed.
XXXX is my love, my life, my everything to me,
And he will be beside me, as we tackle what will be.

So right before my wedding day, I say these words to you,
Hoping that you realize, you're in everything I do.
On my wedding day I will pledge to XXXX, my very heart and soul,
You have helped to mold me, and he will make me whole.

Thank you for all that you have done for me.

Love Your Daughter,
XXXX

Here is the poem for FI's parents

For my parents:
Mom & Dad –

I know I don’t say it often, and you can’t read my mind,
But as we get closer to my wedding day, I thought I should be inclined,
To tell you how special you are, and you mean the world to me
A son couldn’t have better parents, or a better family tree.

I have always felt very loved, even when I was in trouble.
Which all of us know was more than you imagined, maybe even double!
I hope to pass on that love, to children of my own,
The example you set will be hard to follow, but I will not be alone.

I was once a little boy, that you raised with love and care
I have now become a man, and my life I am ready to share.
XXXX is my life, my best friend, my soulmate and confidante,
There is no other person, that I could ever want.

Soon we’ll be joined in marriage, for now and evermore,
I’ll be armed with the qualities you taught me, and, am now, thanking you for.
Please know that I might not say it, but my heart is full of love,
For the things I have, but mostly for, yourselves that you gave all of.

Thank you for all that you have done for me.

Love Your Son,
XXXX

I think I'm going to get them a gift certificate to a Bed and Breakfast out East near the vineyards for a few days.

Thank you all for the suggestions. Please, keep them coming.

Sanmink, I like this idea or theatre tickets. My FH thinks that it should be something that they will have as a memory. I see his point too.

A second honeymoon! I am going to pay tribute to them by giving my mother an exact replica of her bouquet. The band will play their wedding song. We are also going to send them to Niagra Falls (not really where they honeymooned, but it was a popular place back then).

We're doing the same thing as you sanmik. I know my parents and they will beed some time way after all the craziness! But my mother swears that if we get her something, she will be mad. Oh well!

Re: Parents gift?

I did Broadway show tickets and a dinner gift certificate to their favorite restaurant. My parents have enough stuff in their house and don't need any other knick knacks. It went over really well.

Mine say they will get mad, but then have a sh*t-eating grin on their face when they get something. They love traveling and they're going to need some downtime after all the guests leave + not too far that it's out of the way. I hope they love it.
