I am giving all the parents our engagement pic framed and we wanted to give them gift certificates to nice restaurants... We have 4 sets of parents! My Dad...Rothmans My Mom...Cafe Rustica Fh's dad...Paces Fh's Mom...Coach gift certificate (mom hates going out to dinner )

Do u have to give your parents a gift even if they are not paying for any portion of the wedding?
And in my tradition, his family (well fiance and I) are giving my parents dowry money as well (About $20,000). Is a gift really necessary?

I'm Chinese, it's a chinese tradition for the groom's fmaily to give the bride's family dowry money for marrying their daughter.
And yes, my fiance and I are paying for the wedding out of our own pockets with no help whatsoever from either parents.
