parents hosting or just contributing?

parents hosting or just contributing?

At what point do we need to name our parents on our invitation?
We are pay for almost everything ourselves but our parents have given us monetary engagement gifts to use towards the wedding. The amounts are not nearly enough to pay for an entire wedding, but are very much appreciated and we are very grateful to have something from them at all. It works out to be like each set of parents is paying for one vendor. Does this count as us hosting the wedding along with our parents, or does that count as just a very very generous engagement gift?

we are in the same boat, but feel like by invite etiquitte we should include our parents' names

That's how I feel too. traditionally you would see parent's names on a wedding invitation. I'm wondering if it's more appropriate to say our names and just simply 'along with their parents,' because I've seen that a lot lately too.

I included their names but made it sound we were all hosting :) so no feelings would be hurt. Together with such and such we invite you or request...

Me and my DH paid for everything ourselves but we still put them on the invitation, felt sorta bad if we didnt.

also because they are supporting us in more ways than monetarily :)

This is a very good point! Although I have to say that my sisters are often much more of a support system to me. I'm not sure if I've ever seen an invitation stating 'along with their families' instead of just parents.

My parents are paying for a large piece of it, but we're covering all the rest. I asked them if they wanted the invites to be traditional with their names or if we'd say 'with our families.' They didn't really have a strong opinion, so we left their names off. Maybe you could ask them what they think? It's really up to you.

FH and I are paying for the majority of our wedding ourselves. My parents paid for my day of attire and are hosting my shower. FH's parents are paying for his custom tux, the church donation and are hosting the RD. Our parents collectively hosted our EP.
Our invitations read 'together with our families'

Hope that helps!

We're doing most of it ourselves. My parents are contributing more than FH's parents. To avoid any frustration or hurt feelings, we just put, 'Together with their parents...'

FH AND I are paying for the entire wedding ourselves. We are putting out names then 'together with our parents.' My sister did the same thing.

Edit.... We will probably write this:

Because you have shared in
our lives by your friendship and love, we
(Bride's Name)
and
Groom's name
together with our parents
invite you to share
the beginning of our new life together when we exchange marriage vows

We had the same thing with our parents. My parents gave a small portion and his a smaller one. We are very appreciative but it does not nearly pay for the wedding. We put their names on it because I knew they would want it that way and would feel offended if we didn't, but a little part of me wishes we had made it more clear that we were doing most of this on our own because I don't want people thinking our parents did this all for us and all the hard work and money we put into this is not realized. But I guess in the long run, I know how happy they will be when they see their names on there. So I guess it was worth it after all they've done for us growing up.

Our parents contributed so on the invitation we just put with our parents.

My mom really could not afford to contribute for our wedding DH's mom gave us some money. My sister paid for our flowers.

Out of respect, we did 'Together with their families

Jennifer X
and Doug Y
request the honour...

Totally agree with this. This also solves the issue I was running into with my fiance's divorced and remarried parents...if I named everyone who was contributing there would be no room for the date and time! 'Together with their parents' includes but doesnt point fingers at exactly who paid or how much.

What should we write if my parents are paying for a majority of our wedding and we are paying for things like photography, dj, flowers, limos. FH's mom cannot afford and hasn't mentioned anything about contributing or not contributing. I don't want to make her feel bad, so I've kind of been stressing about the wording on the invitation.

We included both our parents on the invites so no one would feel offended and everyone feels that their contribution was enough.
