Parents names on Invites

Original post by jilmadison

Are you guys planning on putting your FI's parents names on the wedding invitation? If they are not helping pay?

We're paying for everything ourselves and still put both parents names on the invite out of respect. It's a joining of both families, and the money equation was never an issue for us anyway.

It isn't just about who's paying, I just feel it makes sense in our situation. I didn't mean for my response to come across in a bad way. It would be complicated I think with who is contributing what, not to mention FH's mom has passed on and he has no relationship with his father. So it would really just be my parents who aren't even together anymore, I don't think it would look right. I absolutely agree the wedding is a joining of 2 families, and that will be expressed in our programs and throughout the ceremony as FH, his daughter, and I all become an 'official' family.

We only had our names...and yes we paid for everything ourselves too. I don't think it's a matter of respect in our case at all. It's just what we decided to do.

Neither my Dad, my late Mother nor his Mom & Dad felt disrespected in anyway. They actually loved our invite.

Everyones circumstances are different. Please keep that in mind when reading these posts. Do what you feel comfortable doing.

We're paying for the wedding all on our own, so only our names are going on the invitations.

Same here. And surprisingly, FILs have not said a word about it.

I just spoke to my mom about this. She suggested

Mr. & Mrs. My parents
invite you to the wedding of their daugther
Me
to
FH
son of Mr & Mrs. His parents

This is what we are doing.

Well said! I agree about the joining of two families and not who foots the bill. this is my opinion and I am sure I am in the minority. If one of your parents is footing the bill, you may want to ask them how they felt about noting the other parents on the invite without a contribution. good luck!!

Ditto! FI insisted that both parents names be on top of ours. It will read...

'Mr & Mrs. XXXX
&
Mr. & Mrs. YYYY

request the honour of your presence at the marriage of their children

Emily & Alessandro'

I think it just sounds more formal too!

FI and I are paying for the entire wedding but we decided to word the invitations this way:

Janine & John
together with their parents Mr. & Mrs. Bride
& Mr. Mrs. Groom
