Are you guys planning on putting your FI's parents names on the wedding invitation? If they are not helping pay?

Re: Parents names on Invites
We're paying for the wedding all on our own, so only our names are going on the invitations.

We're paying for everything ourselves and still put both parents names on the invite out of respect. It's a joining of both families, and the money equation was never an issue for us anyway.

Well said! I agree about the joining of two families and not who foots the bill. this is my opinion and I am sure I am in the minority. If one of your parents is footing the bill, you may want to ask them how they felt about noting the other parents on the invite without a contribution. good luck!!

We did, but I asked my mom if she was ok with it. She said that his parents are hosting it as much as she is because they are inviting their people too.

Only my parents are going on them..they are the ones paying but also it's tradition for the bride's parents to be the only ones mentioned. FH is fine with this. I have no idea if his parents know and my parents are more than pleased.

We're doing the same thing, just my parents and FH is ok with it. That was the one request that my parents made throughout the entire process. I agree with them that they are hosting the party, inviting all of the guests regardless of who knows them so only their names should be on the invites.
I think it's an old tradition....

Re: Parents names on Invites
ugh, i haven't thought much about this. his parents are giving us $10,000 and my mom can't give us a dime...i would prefer to just have our names on it and say something like 'together with thei families' but i don't know if our parents would like that. i guess we'll put both. ~lacey

I wish my mom felt that way.

Re: Parents names on Invites
We haven't ordered our invites yet, but since my parents are divorced, I think we'll put our names and then 'together with their parents'.
We're also paying for the wedding ourselves...with a little help from some early parental gifts! :) ...not that it should play into the decision - in my mind anyway. Even if my parents were still together I would probably go with what I'm thinking - less formal for the type of wedding we're having. If it were less complicated and I could name our parents, I would put both sets of parents on it.

I totally agree. That's the same thing we are doing.

Even if they don't pay I still think you should their names on there. It is only right and will prevent a lot sore feelings later.
Remember -- they'll be a part of your life MORE after you marry. Pick you battles carefully.

I think you might want to tell you FIL's about this -- before the invitations go out. Maybe they won't care -- but why cause problem about something, that in the end, it kind of trival.

Re: Parents names on Invites
This is a touchy subject for some parents, whatever you decide make sure to let both sets of parents know before you send them out so they are not surprised.
My FSIL's parents paid for my FBIL (FI bro) and her's entire wedding so by tradition she only had her parents name on the invite. However, when the invites went out, my FMIL (FI mom) threw a fit and practically disowned my FSIL. This was 5 years ago and they still don't get along that well. I know it's ridiculous and you don't have to tell me how lucky I am to have a FMIL like this, hehe. But just to avoid something like this you should show everyone so they know what it will be. Not that they have to approve, but just so they know.
FI and I are paying for the majority ourselves with a little help from my mom, so we will prob put 'together with our families' and not name any parents.

Thanks..they will definitely know about it beforehand. I wouldn't be right to just keep them in the dark, plus we have a very good relationship.
