Paris

Let's hear it ladies, everything you got!
I'm reconsidering our honeymoon plans and have started to fall in love with Paris....
Not sure how great the weather will be in November, but it still seems beautiful.
So what are the MUST sees/dos? What's the best hotel?
I appreciate any help you can offer b/c if we're switching we gotta do it asap. We're thinking of maybe taking a train to Switzerland also....
Thanks so much ladies!!!!

Re: Paris

ahh. totally different destinations!!

never been to tahiti, but I didn't care much for Paris. I guess it depends on what you like? Personally I wasn't too into it, although the Sacre COuer (sp?) is really pretty. it's just a city though, and there are much prettier cities, imo, in europe.

Re: Paris

I've been to Paris but when I was 16....back then I found it to be very romantic and magical.

I dont know if I'd view it the same way now that I'm 25...Id probably find the traffic and hustle and bustle annoying

There is alot to do in Paris though....complete opposite of a beach setting.

It all depends on what kind of HM you want- relaxing or sightseeing.

Re: Paris

I've been to Paris twice and I absolutely loved it! It is a very romantic city (obviously), with so much history and lively streets to wander down.

If you decide to go, I would suggest staying on the left bank or Marais. Odeon is another wonderful neighborhood. Be sure to wander the Toularies, a series of parks that line the Champs-Elysee. It is a lovely walk that leads you from the Arc de Triumphe to the Louvre. Also be sure to visit the Isle the Cite, with its flower market. Montemarte is a fun area to visit as well (you'll find the Moulin Rouge and Sacre Coeur there), but it's a sketchy neighborhood so I wouldn't suggest staying there.

Other sites to see: The Luxemborg Gardens in St. Germain (where I got engaged!), the cemetaries in Montparnasse where Proust and Jim Morrison (among others) are buried, wandering along the Seine where you'll find artists and book sellers, the Place Vendom e(great shopping) ... there's so much to see, you won't be bored for a minute. But the best part of Paris is simply sitting in the cafes and discovering all the wonderful shops and people.

Favorite Restaurants: C'est Mon Plasir in St. Germain (the best fois gras in the world, it's a hidden and tiny restaurant, no tourists), Chez Papa in Montparnasse (awesome provincal food and great wine), Gorges at the top of the Centre Pompidou (the view alone is worth it). We would also buy a loaf of bread and a hunk of Camembert cheese from a local marketplace and set up a picnic at the park by the Eiffel Tower. It saves you $$ and is very romantic. You can also buy crepes from street vendors - delicious and cheap!

If you decide to go, I think you'll love it. I don't have a good hotel recommendation, unfortunately (we weren't thrilled with our hotels), but again, the Left Bank, Marais and Odeon are great neighborhoods to check out.

Enjoy and best of luck!

Re: Paris

i liked paris a lot, but it wasnt my favourite. berlin is my favourite. i think it depends on your personality really (i am a history buff and germany is by far my favourite). what i really liked about france was southern france, for the beaches and stuff.

skip switzerland! if you can switch to southern france or take the chunnel to london. i have been to switzerland a few times (i lived in germany for a year) and it is so pricey. i also found it kind of boring, but then again i have been to so much of europe that i found switzerland to be just another european city. i went to geneva, bern, interlaken and zürich. i also went to the border by lake Konstanz.

FM me if you have any questions about europe.
