Yes I went to look at a few places there. At first I liked it but after going back to look at one place we were interested in we changed our minds. Their maintenance fee is $1200 and its going to go up soon actually. If you go in there you will see these huge tubes in front of lawns with steam always come out of it, that part was weird to me. Then we asked about it and they said that the system is VERY old and they are redoing everything. They are going to tear up the front lawns and streets to get to the pipes underneath and get all new systems. Which is great that they are fixing the problem but one thing that concerned me was that there will be ALOT of construction going on and for a while, its a huge job. Its also a multi-million dollar job and bc of that we were told that maintenance fee's will go up, its already $1200 and I asked about how much and they said they cant say exactly but will go up maybe a few hundred dollars.

The first time DH and I went to look, there were quite a few places having open houses so we went to alot of them that one day. Some of the apartments were extremely small and not in great condition. They are duplex apartments so that is a plus, but at the same time most were kinda small. The kitchens were all very small and the downstairs depending on the apartment you h ad an ok sized living room, small formal dining room and tiny kitchens. Then you went upstairs and they most all had 2 bedrooms off the hallway and the bathroom and most had a drop down ladder for the attic that you can use for storage space. There was one place we did like, but we went back a 2nd time to look and when we looked more into it, we noticed the pipes were all very old and would need alot of work and once it gets into pipes it can get pricey, also needed electrical work and other updating.

There were 2 that were ok as far as being more up to date. But again the $1200 maintenance fee is a bit high and especially since it will be going up soon, who knows how high it will go. DH knows about the work they are doing and he said its extremely expensive and they can raise the price alot to pay for it. I had went back to my real estate agent and told him about it and asked his opinion, i told him we were interested in 1 place and he told me not to go for it.

Also know its on the other side, its not on the side where kew gardens is by lets say the LIRR and close to austin street. Its on the other side of Queens blvd and going down to union turnpike, right off of main street

ETA: they also had other issues, problems with asbestos and many other problems too. Here is some info on it, they were fined alot of money for finding asbestos

Um WOWZA, thats SCARY!

I just got a note under my door that its time for my 'special assessment' that i've been paying since a month after I moved in is finally going to materialize! They're starting to redo all the hallways/doors/fixture! YAY!

FH reads the electric meters there and says its a very old cmplex and alot of the buildings are really run down. I wanted to go look for a place there but he talked me out of it.

they are very old and there hasnt really been any updating on their systems at all. What they want to do is they want to give each home their own boiler. Right now they have these huge systems in the street that a bunch of houses get their heat from. So they are gonna have to rip up the ground and its just ALOT of work. DH knows all about this bc of his job and he said to take out the system they have now which is old and having a bunch of apartments all on one boiler, then to set up the pipes and everything for each home to have their own boiler is gonna be a long process. So i would just be afraid with how much construction will be going on. And yeah luckily dh knows about electric work and all that bc we looked specifically through the apartments to see how the pipes and electric work was and we would've had to do ALOT of work. Not to mention how they found asbestos and they were fined alot of money bc of it.

Also, when i went to open houses there, there were SOOO many apartments for sale. I found it odd too, i couldnt understand why so many people were selling at one time. DH and I were there for HOURS going from one place to another and we still didnt see all the open houses they had that day. I told DH that its weird to have so many people at once moving out of a complex. Once they told me all the work they were going to do and that the maintenance was gonna go up, and most of the places the maintenance was between $900-1200 already and to make it even higher is just too much. You dont have that many amenities or stuff there for them to charge that high maintenance.
